Rebuilding of teh internetz

Leave it as it is.

The only reason they want to reinvent it is so that governments have more control over it. I like an open and free internet, thank you very much.

Ya, first thing that crossed my mind too.

Imagine the chaos!

I think the headline of this article is incorrect....

GENI has very little to do with "rebuilding" the internet, but more to test new ideas/technology in a closed environment.

The internet is so large now that rebuilding it unfortunately is probably impossible, much to many governments dismay of course.

I may be wrong but the way I read it is the outcome of Geni, will be a redesigned internet...They need a test environment first of course.

New York - A massive project to redesign and rebuild the internet from scratch is inching along with $12m in government funding and donations of network capacity by two major research organisations.

Many researchers want to rethink the internet's underlying architecture, saying a "clean-slate" approach is the only way to truly address security and other challenges that have cropped up since the internet's birth in 1969.

Yeah, thats the way I read the article as well, but I've done a bit more reading on GENI and its not actually proposing a "clean-slate" approach or a rebuilding of the internet.... since that is practically impossible now.

GENI from what I understand of it, is more about testing new technologies and having a test bed for them. Granted some of those new technologies may eventually replace something that is core to the internet, but not without alot of heartache and pain to make that happen.
