HP pavilion dv9000 giving me hassles since day one

Hey...
So I go out and buy a computer that I think will be really cool and maybe even be able to play some games...
Stoked with the size of the hard drive and the processer, the ram has 1g, not perfect but doable..
Save up and buy the Pavilion dv 9000.
I think it worked properly for about a week?
Now it takes about 10 min to start windows up, and during this process just gives me a black screen to look at.
At the moment I score 2.(something) on that visa rating and jump from having 500mg of ram to 999?
WTF!!!!
Thought I must have a virus, format.. didnt help
Called help desk, duh no help
Anybody know what my next step should be, except for throwing it out the window? Or even what they think the problem is?
 
Maybe you should take it back to the store for a refund/swop?

I think you just got a dud, but thanks for the heads up - I'll be staying away from HP laptops in the future
 
I have an HP with less problems with you... next time I probably will buy something else though.

Windows usually takes 10min to start up. It's called a huge design flaw. My Linux boots up in maximum 1 minute and my laptop isn't even close to top of the range [anymore].

How old is your laptop? You have somewhere in the range of a 30-day exchange warranty on HPs...
 
Which model, as dv9000 is a series of HP laptops? What specs?
From you experience score I would say the laptop is too lightly speced to run Vista properly.

Do you have Vista on it?

1Gb RAM + Vista = problems.
 
I just have to come up for HP laptops - I'm on my 3rd one since my NC6110 - a good & reliable machine! Now I'm on a 8510w - not too shabby! And I've also had Toshibas, Dells and Acers, still prefer HP!

But Vista on anything with less than 2GB of ram is asking for trouble!

My 8510w has 4GB of ram, but with XP and it really flies! And I swopped out the 5400rpm drive for a 7200rpm - really makes a diff!
 
UBER bump, this...

I had an HP 530 notebook... Was awesome... Loved it.

Now have Dell Studio 1537... Still feels slightly alien to me (whereas with the HP 530 I took to it straight away). Not sure if it's because my HP 530 was taken from me before its time... ;)

But ZERO problems with the 530.
