If this is the case and I hate to say it - perhaps the Minister was right all along with these jokers.

Those in corporate world will equate this with the hefty "head office admin costs"
lumped onto most manufacturing plants trying to compete.

I fear that the SNO is a dead duck - hope not.

Seems like the Sentech formula might just succeed.

Its a mess.
And the consumers continue to foot the bill.
The state has certainly bungled things up with the SNO.

On the other hand the foreign bidders know that business against Telkom will be tough. Perhaps they are asking premium prices to cover the risk.

Note that it is only Kennedy Memani who seems to be unhappy. Chances are Two and Communitel have found a way to make their 13% each work together in a way that makes Nexus's 19% less influential.

Sure there are squabbles about control, but better have those now than later on have a company that is run by a divisive committee... It really is the Minister of Communication that is to blame for this conglomorate of minorities that now has to make the SNO work.

Too damn right - this bungling individual has shown the intellect of the village idiot when it comes to telco issues - what do you expect from a self confessed technophobe. The number of complaints about this individual are truly unbelievable - yet she continues hold the keys to this nationally important office - doesn't say much for the ruling party in terms their selection - and no it's got nothing to do with politics - I do have political views - but in terms of this forum my comments are apolitical.

The ministry of telecommunications is a vital post for this country. I am not going to go on and on about the Internet as a viable economy but we all know the impact that telco mess we find oursleves is costing us - both on a local and international level.

Having said though Dr Ivy isn't the only problem... I equate the state of telco affairs in SA to the state of affairs in Rugby - rotten to the core - we have a totally ineffectual regulator in the form of ICASA, a monopolistic telco that does whatever it feels like and a Minister of Telecommunications who shouldn't even be allowed to keys to the outhouse let alone the keys to the Ministry of Telecommunications...

This particular point never ceases to amaze me. Regardless of which political party comes into power, the ministerial positions seem to handed out like spoils after a battle. Never mind whether the appointed person has even faintest clue of what his/her portfolio entails, the fact that the person held a key position in the party qualifies them to take up the role of a minister. Should we expect anything less that complete incompetence?

When or if ever the people in this world realise these simple principles, politics will always be a shambles.
Sure pay your ministers fat pay packets, but make sure they are first qualified to do the job.
Unlike the ANC that sees any post as a post for pals. And in many cases they are incompetent or unsuitable for the post, but again as usual the public must just pay.
They only Dept that is shaking a leg is SARS. Ever wondered why? Things aren’t so different from the days of Robin Hood and his band of thieves. They just wear suits now.

Our ministers change positions more often than their underpants, hardly any of them know what to do in their jobs. Bloody hell, if I was the minister of communications we would all have a booming freakin economy, and I'm sure all of us here have the same ideas and ideals WRT communications in SA. But for now we have a Moron of Communications... the 'Minister' doesn't apply. 'Admitting' last year that 'bandwidth prices is a major problem' doesn't help. She's the flippin MoC! Surely if you are endowed as a Minister of Communications you can do something about that?? A big waste of money. Fire her, build some houses for the poor. She has done sweet fkucall for SA and its peepz. And we paid her to do it. Eish!

They can't run a bath never mind a country.
