Just a question.

Can I get WiMAX instead of ADSL even though I know I could get ADSL if I wanted it?

Or do they only offer WiMAX if you cannot get ADSL?

Thanks.

They ONLY offer WiMAX if you can't get ADSL, and even then its sketchy at best.

What?? They dont offer it to already ADSL coverage areas... thats embarrasing... Now what about people in P.E... Almost everyone in P.E has ADSL in there area so itll be a waist to bring Wimax here.. Stupid mofos Telscum idiots
My Tower is 1km away from my house with Perfect Line of sight...

512kb ADSL - R300 and something /month
512kb Wimax - R240 /month

Main reason Y I want Wimax is the price and from what Ive heard the technology has alot of potential.
This sucks!!

What happens if you already have WiMax and your area suddenly gets ADSL? Will they take out your WiMax and offer you ADSL or are you alowed to keep the WiMax?

If you are alowed to keep the WiMax in an ADSL area, then I don't see why you can't get it after there is ADSL allready.... Sounds like typical Telkom logic...

HUH:confused:

What logic? there isn't any....

LOL - true... lets see what happens...

Telkom is currently busy laying out "plans" for ADSL. Getting WiMax for the interim, lets see what happens when ADSL is up and running my area...

This is going to be so much fun...

WIMAX - ADSL

Guys I am surprised at this thread - if you read some of the Info in this forum you will see that BOTH ADSL and WIMAX are available. So just to lay things to rest - and whilst i don't have a thing for Telkom - stop blaming them for what you don't / cannot understand.

When you apply for BROADBAND the first option if there is copper and slots at the exchange - they will obvioulsy offer that service - why - becasue the infrastructure is there and it will be the most cost effective and quickest method to use. If there is no copper then the alternative is WIMAX (as long as you can get signal from towers that havethe service near you)

You can like many of us request WIMAX even if there is copper in the area - I can have either ADSL or WIMAX - I chose WIMAX

I chose WIMAX becasue I know the copper often gets stolen and there will be a time I loose service becasue of this.

I concede that there 'may" be some misunderstanding regarding the application - but you all seem to be savvy people so get them to understand what you want - you pay the bill - so you ask for what you want.

One can go on forever about problems - find the solutions:)

Thanks for the reply Kicker.

So you say that you can get Wimax even when you live in a ADSL ready are? That is very cool.

I have a extreme issue with being forced to pay for a phone line and then paying again for that same phone line "with ADSL capability". It is total utter bullshlt.

Short answer YES - as I mentioned in my earlier reply - and just now you may even be offered Voice over IP through your Wimax

Ok, then policy changed on that one.

It used to be that if your area had ADSL, Telkom would not allow you to get WiMAX, I'm glad they've changed that policy...

The policy hasnt changed, those dumbasses wont give you wimax if your in adsl coverage, why? because wimax is cheaper and they dont offer cheap services

The reason I want WiMax is because I am so far from the exchange getting higher than 512k on my ADSL is impossible. As such, I would like a 1meg+ WiMax connection.
