I rented some dvd's and it wont play on my recorder, but when i pop it in my PC no problem. Is there maybe a codec upgrade or something??

Or any other update/upgrade that might work

Either region related, or your optical drive unit is knackered - I have exactly the same model and had to replace the optical reader with LG, about 8 months ago. Cost approx R650 for a new unit...

The LG's are notorious for their optical readers failing - if it's still under warranty, take it back for replacement.

I opened the regions on the recorder and all my other DVD's work, how do you upgrade the firmware and where do you get the upgrades, I search everywhere?

I also had trouble with mine (another lg writer model), but discovered that it is only newer discs which has some new copy protection on it, that is a problem. (If there is a sign at the back looking like one disc on top of another, then I know it will have problems. I also looked to see if I can find a firmware upgrade, but to no avail.) Must also say my lg is about 4 years old.

Strange beasts these...I have an LG RH7624 (not region locked) which refuses to play my original Asterix and Tintin DVDs. It plays the copies I've made of them without any problem :D. They also work just fine on another LG DVD player I have.

Ain't copyright a wonderful thing - even when you OWN the original discs... :D

Be careful of the firmware for these optical drives - there are so many available, and you have to have the right one for your specific drive, otherwise your in deep trouble...

There was another thread on this issue where I also helped out with some advice - just search on the RH1999 and you should find it. :)
