Reinstalled XP but lag is still there :(

After encountering random game freezes and moments where my audio goes crazy or my mouse stop moving, I decided to re-install XP .... and guess what, I am still getting these problems.

My drivers are all up to date (gfx, m/b, k-lite codecs, etc) and so is XP SP3.

This just tells me that it is a hardware problem. It seems to happen after I have played a game for a while. My gfx card temp sits at a steady 60 deg C as reported by nTune. I do not overclock anything - just monitor with ntune.

Memstest says that my 4GB ram (2x2GB) is ok.

I am suspecting it is the motherboard or the HDD.

This spare PC is in a Gigabyte Triton case and a 500W KMEX PSU.

Any suggestions?
 
Try swopping the ram out? I had that prob on one of my pc’s and the ram was faulty, even if xp showed that its there and ok. :confused:
 
I will try removing one stick at a time and working with it, single channel. Might help me identify if the ram is faulty.
 
It could be sp3 had some massive K@k with it! and had to formatted again and installed sp2 and not everything is great again.

It's always the Mobo.

Why?

Because motherboards thesedays in most situations make up more than half of the whole computer. Onboard sound, onboard graphics, onboard LAN, onboard USB, onboard Firewire (upscale mobos), finer and finer circuitry ...

Yes. Installed SP2 - experienced lag. Installed SP3, same thing. Intermittent audio and video issues.

I also had intermittent issues with sound and networking a couple of years ago. Guess what the problem was ... mobo!!!

The problem was visibly a popped capacitor, that made the diagnosis pretty easy. In your case I would still accuse the mobo of being the problem.

Agree, mobo or cpu overheating because some small component is telling you its dying.
 
How do you return a motherbaord to a SUpplier? The mobo is around 8 months old.

Not sure how it works ... must I disassemble and return to the company that I bought it from or what? I think I bought it from Centurion Technology in Centurion - will go look for the receipt. They built the PC for me a while back.
 
You should also test the ram. You can make a bootable CD with a DOS based RAM tester which will test your entire system RAM.
 
A similar thing happened to me this weekend when I reformatted my desktop. My mouse was "sticky" and the sound broke up.

Cause?

During installation of a certain program, known as Adobe Acrobat, there was a conflict with something or the other to do with the installer. It cost me to uninstall the program and run system restore.
