In-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

Hi,

I have a registry issue, which causes me to loose my internet connection (i.e. I cannot browse); I then have to run a dnsbak.reg file (leftover from fixwareout) to reconnect to the internet.

Will an in place upgrade (reinstallation) of windows XP resolve my registry issue? and is there a major risk of loosing data (should I not perform a back-up).

You may cause a rift, in the time/space continuum if you attempt this..... ;)
