Hello,

My modem finally arrived today! After weeks of gnashing teeth, I can finally smile and enjoy.

Just one last word of advice... when the driver comes to deliver, you will need to personally sign for it, give him the original signed contract and a copy of your ID.

You may additionally be requested to supply your first born, in certain circumstances.

Any idea what happens in the case that you're not in possesion of a first born? [:p] Will man's best friend do?

Because it appears to be Sentech's mission to make as many hoops as possible for it's customers to jump through, to PROVE how much they want it.

I can almost hear them screaming WHOSE YO DADDEH?!?!

I really don't understand your rant. It makes perfect sense that they require a copy of a SIGNED contract, in black and white, for their records. Any business that goes into contract with a client does this... Just go get a cellphone, and they will demand a signed black and white copy, and copy of your ID document too...

What is your point?

I aint giving up my porn! screw them!

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Berco never arranged ANYTHING with me, they just pitched.
And then a copy of my ID wasn't good enough, I had to give them a certified ID..lucky for me I had a certified copy from when I registered my car...

johnny-c, I agree with you, it's good to let others, who don't have mywireless, know about this.

Well, then it's hardly fair to blame Sentech for it isn't it?

They require this information from Berco upon delivery, and if Berco cannot manage to communicate this to you, or even make the arrangements upon delivery then you should be bitching at Berco, not Sentech.

The Berco rep that delivered my modem phoned me, made an appointment, and explained to me EXACTLY what would be required upon delivery.

I was told to have my ID or drivers license, nothing about the signed contract or only a ID book. When they arrivedthe driver was close to a good klap for not accepting the drivers license. At the end I have the modem he has the contract and he never saw my ID

From the sentech.co.za "Online application" section:

quote:

Please sign the MyWireless Service Agreement and Fax to the number on the front page of the contract.

If you did that, then you should have a signed copy lying around. But it does seem like Berco are messing up these deliveries.

I did get a cellphone contract.

They did not require an original.

i can't remember when i got the sentech modem, but it must have been in feb sometime. i hampered them so much , that they sent directly to berco to pick it up on the friday. No id, no contract, nothing, and this was from the md of berco (the division that does the whole sentech delivery thingy). i've still got the original contract that i faxed to them in jan.

but you know what, if they ask for the contract tommorrow, i'll give it to them. there's no ways i'm letting go of this.
Berco's contact made this perfectly clear when arranging for delivery, so I don't really know why a warning is required....

They didn't for me, so a warning is definitely in order. Was pretty annoying. Fortunately I had it nearby, so it didn't take long to fetch, but the guy gave me serious 'ice stares', like it was *my* fault for not having the damn thing, when they didn't bother to tell me that they'd ask for it.

I don't have a problem with them requiring it. But they should just TELL YOU that you'll need to give it to the delivery guy, that's all.

They didnt mention it to me either that i had to hand over the original signed contract. I left it at home and the delivery was done at my place of work, but luckily i just phoned berico up and they said they would send the driver again the next day to pickup the contract.

I'd like to get a cellphone without signing a contract. That'd be awesome. Which company was this? !!! ?

These things are part of the logistics of MyWireless, which Sentech outsourced to Berco. If anyone's at fault, it's Berco.

And I can fully understand them requiring a form of ID when taking lease of a very expensive modem.

But I agree. It might be worthwhile for Sentech to put this in bold print on their website. I still think that it's perfectly sensible and normal business practice. johnny-c's "Sentech's mission to make as many hoops as possible for it's customers to jump through" comment is unwarranted in this case.

In my cell contract, I had to sign but a fax was more than enough for VODACOM.

My comment was not unwarranted, after sending over 4 faxes, and each time having more documentation asked for. Maybe you (rodent) should consider that not EVERYONE has had as good experience as you have, and it is thanks to forums such as this one to vent these comments.

End of discussion.

I have indeed considered that. You've been venting at the wrong company though. Like I said, Berco is at fault.

Just because you've had trouble getting your financial status approved by Sentech, doesn't mean that you can slag them for the bad delivery service by a third party too.

I'm waiting now, for your complaints about ping, signal strength and disconnections now that you have your modem...

If I were you, I would be more worried about FICA (http://m1.mny.co.za/WGPF.nsf/0/C2256A2A0056331B42256E6F00478743?OpenDocument), and what the Receiver thinks of the fact that you do all your banking through a company account, than about giving Sentech a signed copy of a contract, and identification upon receiving a modem.

FICA is in all likelihood why Sentech is so insistent on obtaining these, and financial details, since they are after all, a government parastatal. Don't rant at Sentech about something which is pretty much the LAW these days.

Well at some point somebody told me to have the original contract available when the guy arrives with the modem. Eventually when he arrived about 14 days later, he seemed quite confused because I wanted to give him the contract and he did not even ask for my ID.

I gave him everything in any event, but feel a bit worried now that we have a one party government, seeing that Sentech belongs to the government. Hope I did not make a mistake, because I did not expect a 2/3 majority. Now I am sitting with this 24 month contract, not knowing what can happen next.

BERCO is not the company we signed a contract with. If BERCO is at fault, then SENTECH must take accountability since THEY contracted BERCO to do the deliveries.
