The ADSL and new phone system is on it's way, which means it's almost time to ditch iBurst for good! I'm so glad. I purchased my last overpriced 1000MB (not even a gig!) today :) Goodbye to excessively shaped connections, failed connections, etc and hello to cheap, open bandwidth!

The contract for the ADSL was signed today - any idea how long it will take for telkom to arrive and install it? We're in JHB.

Also, I've heard horror stories about cancelling iburst. We're well past our contract period, so there won't be a penalty fee. What should I be aware of? I've heard of them stealing money out of accounts after contracts have been cancelled.

Also... anyone want to buy an iBurst modem? It comes with a free Sentech MyWireless modem.

I would suggest using Gumtree to sell the modem. I posted my ad in the morning and it was sold by lunchtime.

I applied for my line on a weekend, the last one in August at a Telkom shop. They installed the line this past Friday. I waited slightly less than a week.

I tried to sell my modem- all I got was some people who were interested but then not, and then some chancers who are not even members of this forum, posting visitor messages. So what I am going to do now is sell it to a reseller so that I can see who I am dealing with first.

Oh, and when you cancel, be sure to close your bank account and have a new one ready. I'm in the process of making these arrangements so that when the plug is pulled which is really soon, they cannot try and steal money from me again. As it is they owe me money- too small an amount to take them to court for, but enough for them to be hated by me forever.

As Turiko said - best to change to another bank account as I know of forumites who got money taken out of their bank accounts a year after they closed their iBurst accounts down.

It is a schlepp, but will preserve your sanity in the long run.

Also make sure you use their official cancellation form or they will ignore your request to cancel.

There are links on the forum for the cancellation form, but if you can't find it I can post a RapidShare link.

Call 10219 / 0800 500 200 / 0800 375 375 (might have to hold for > 30 minutes) and request the operator to bring forward the installation date. TIP: Request Afrikaans language when prompted, this will allow you to speak to some of the older Telkom employees that you can actually understand and that have experience, since if you select English; there is a high probability that you will be connected to a BEE employee and this will only frustrate you with rather unhelpful and unskilled "assistance".

Should you not want to hold for that period of time call Finlay / Taric in Cape Town on +27214184747 and provide him with your order number and kindly request him to bring the installation date forward.

Generally if there are no exchange issues, installations are done within 1 - 2 weeks.

PM me should you require more assistance - will remove Finlay's number once you have confirmed that you have taken it down.

Regards

Mike
