The art of CD and DVD

I don't waste my money on re-writable CDs or DVDs... they are not worth the cost. Just use a CD or DVD once and then throw it away.

... and I have never ... yet... lightscribed a CD or DVD... I would not know where to start? A black marker serves me quite well at the moment :p

Tutorial anyone?
 
I very rarely use DVD's for backups, only CD's. Blueray disks, what are they? ;)

You are as popular as Blu-Ray... nice to have but not for everyone...
Until you drop your prices - who doesn't have a DVD writer?
Or wasn't that the moral of the story? :D
 
I have one CD-RW and one DVD-RW. These I use for "in cases" and tests, so incase i make a mistake I won't have to throw away once-off discs

I agree, except lightscribe is a godsend for people like me with handwriting not unlike a 5year old's, I also never can find that black marker.

My DVD-RW's usually get scratched before I get a chance to rewrite them.
 
I suppose no-one has read the comments from the major hardware players in the blu-ray arena... they give blu-ray as little as a 5 year lifespan.
 
A good article to teach school children about storage media... moving along now...

Given the cost of blank CDs and DVDs I have taken this route. If I wasn't so lazy I would setup lightscribe to work on my Linux installs. But I just the marker as well. Also the marginal cost of lightscribe DVDs?CDs is not worth it for me.

It will die out when the next, bigger and better, format for storing data on a optical disc comes along.

BUT - if you look how long it has been since we started to hear for Blu-Ray and still you cannot but it in stores and use it as a cheap volume backup solution.

We are stuck with 4.5GB DVDs and it will stay that way for a long long time. I would love ANYTHING that stores more data at the same rand/gigabyte optical disc.
 
I just tried to lightscribe using Nero Essentials 7 and one of those blank white DVDs... but it told me that it is not a lightscribe DVD... why is it blank then? Is it one of those silk-screening DVDs?
 
the lightscribe DVDs I have seen have to have that shiny goldish type surface as opposed to the plain white verbatim type DVDs.
