Outlook Error - Sending Mail

I have been helping a friend with the setup of the mail account with Telkom ADSL.

We seem to be getting an error:
Task 'pop3.telkomsa.net - Sending & Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC69)
Unknown Error 0x800CCC69

Anyone know what this is and how to fix.

Check on the user ID & password setup. Check both POP3 and SMTP - Note if you've used a different ISP's SMTP from your POP3, you must also set different user ID & password for SMTP

There was initially a problem with the ID / Password, but these were fixed.

Both seem to be checked fine, but nothing goes out. Incoming e-mail is OK.

Then the problem is with the smtp server. Make sure you have the name of the server correct - chech with your isp as towhat it should be.

On Telkom you have

Outgoing (SMTP) Server: smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
Incoming (POP3) Server: pop3.telkomsa.net

I seem to have found info (via Google) on the error code.

Offers are: "Mailbox not found" and "Server requires authentication"

Hopefully this will work when I can get back to the system on Monday.

Also check that you don't have an email virus scanner running or that it's correctly configured. Some of these 'hijack' your pop3 and smtp ports by creating a local proxy server to which mail is directed for the purpose of scanning.

This is probably the problem,

Check your username when this occurs. The virus checker drops the username into the pop settings box. Just check it and Control+X it to the right space.
