I am wondering, last night as I got into bed I heard a noise at the window, looked outside, and saw someone sneaking around on our open property. Then he went into our neighbors property, which is open at the front, and could see he was trying to hide in the bushes. So I have this puny crap little alarm on my window, which I opened so as to make a noise. I got the crappy thing to make its crappy noise, but all I got was the guy coming back to our property. From there I just phoned the cops.

The question, what type of guns can I use to pot shot these type of guys? I enjoy paintball, and think crime could provide for good target practice, but I do want to leave my mark on these oaks, not just give them a slight sting.

So the question I bring, motivated by conversations with the cops last night:

What type of pellet air pistols and paintball guns(the pepper bullet type) pack a punch of the sort that might permanently tick off a criminal? Don't want to kill them, as I think the police should have their go at the guys, so just something that will bring on the pain.

I like lasers and torches, and that sort of thing, but would be keen to see what you guys suggest. I am not an expert, so this call goes out to those in the know. And for more practical purposes, cheaper is better. So if the army uses it to snipe russians, cool, but I don't have that kind of cash available. But it would still be cool to know:D

At the moment people are buying pellet guns and using paintball guns on criminals. However this wonderful ANC government has caught on and now want to change the law regarding that as well. Which clearly proves their agenda is to protect the criminals at all costs.

Annoying...

Zuma defending his supporters?! Can't have them getting shot while working, can he?lol! Well, are they gonna outlaw baseball bats? Maybe I should learn to throw rocks at them and hit my target...Or maybe just wish them dead. But I can tell you, I had no defense on me last night, and it was not nice. I had but a walking stick and a back-end of a pool cue, which I know how to use very well in a sticky situation, but I would prefer to do it from my window instead of having to walk up to the guy and get shot.

So the ANC says we must play an active role in community safety. As what? Target practice for criminals?

Tazers?

Are Tazers legal? And if, what are the options? Im saw that one episode of cheaters where a security guard tazers the cheater for making noise where he works...that was just legendary...Considering I never watch that show, I count myself lucky having seen that!

You can get a "shock stick" (or something like that) from Communica with 300k volts on tap for R330 odd.

As far as I'm concerned if its not able to disable an intruder then don't use it. Shooting someone with a paint or pellet gun is just going to piss them off and who knows what sort of firepower they've got (or can quickly get).

Be careful, apart from the legal ramifications (and never assume a cop knows the law), there are several things you need to consider, including the fact that said trespasser may be packing a gun that hurls metal slugs at several times the velocity that any paintball marker can throw a paint ball.

I'm sorry to say this, but there isn't much you can do. Tazers are great but you have to be an arm length from your attacker. If you use any type of force you will have to prove that your life was in danger and the force you used was reasonable. Pointing anything that resembles a gun will only get you into trouble, whether it is a pistol or a paintball gun. The guy running around your yard is not endangering your life in any way so there isn't much you can do except call the police and hope they arrive in time. If the guy was in your house and his knife was sticking out your arm then it would be a different story, then you can shoot to kill, use a tazer, paintball gun or anything else that is within arms reach.

Also mention...

Did I mention, every time I see these guys break in, they do not see me...It's been 3 or 4 times this past 3 months that I see happenings. So with the paintball guns, the ones with the pepper bullets, what kind of reaction can I expect? Cos I think the cops will have an easier time catching someone who are coughing their lungs out than someone who can quietly sneak away...

Must say, the cops came quite quickly when I eventually got through to them. But it's enough time for people to get away still...

if the guy is un-armed then a paintball gun shooting those pepper rounds will fsk that guy up good and proper, but if he's "packing heat" and willing to use it then you will have a big problem and your paintball ain't gonna help. However, that being said, 90% of these criminals are so ***** scared and un-armed that if you confront them with a decent amount of force and know how you will probably catch them.

If I were to disregard all the legal issues and the idea that the relatiation may be more severe than I anticipated at the time... I would paint the ****er with these

That way the cops can easily find the bastards at night.

I know enough places to bury bodies...any F*cker invading my property and belongings will have his arse removed with a blunt object at several thousand Ft. per second.

direct stream pepper spray followed by repeated blows with a blunt object.

@ kingmonty, lol, not a bad idea...the forward thinking I am looking for:D

Okay, legalities aside...Any cool pellet guns and paintball pepper pistols anyone could suggest?

IMO, your safest bet is a real gun.

It's illegal to shoot a pellet gun in town. Just like it's illegal to discharge a firearm, unless you have a valid reason. And if you have a valid reason, the pellet gun will piss him off whereas the 44 mag won't give him a chance to be pissed off :-)

A while ago some kids shot a paintball gun at a copshop, and got themselves charged with treason (I think it was paintball, might have been a pellet gun?)

Anyway, my opinion is if you are not justified, don't, and if you're justified, use the big stick.
