So the 1st round of matches already provided some shocks, with a poor England only managing to beat lowly Andorra and their terrible, defensive, spoiling footy 2-0.
Elsewhere, Germany showed the world what you are meant to do when playing minnows- sweeping aside Liechtenstein 6-0.
France went down 3-1 to Austria (who were shocking in Euro2008)
Tonight sees England take on the Croatians away, which should be the hardest game of the group for them. Bilic has already dismissed England as terminally uselss, so it should be an interesting game :)
It's a good job that SA have qualified as hosts, otherwise I don't think they would have made it :o
I thought Andora did well considering their size.

I thought Andora did well considering their size.
England were pretty weak, but Andorra tend to play a 10-0-0 formation in an attempt to keep the score down, which they did. Didn't really look like ever scoring themselves though :o
Still PMB is far larger than Andorra and if PMB United played England it would have been10-0 by half time :D

Andorra's players are part-time footballers, they did very well against England.
Tonight england will go down 2-0 to Croatia.
Probably. I've seen nothing so far to suggest England have made any significant improvements under Capello

They should get rid of Rooney, his only scored two competitive goals in the last four years for England.

LMAO:D Thats pathetic
Rooney should get the boot sooner or later. But Capello seems intent on making the same mistakes that Erickson and McClaren made.

rooney and cole supporting heskey - priceless.
measure not a mans worth in the goals he scores, but the space he opens up and the assists to which he is due
thus sayeth the black n white book of ball sports

Well that's the first good game rooney has had for England in donkey years. So enjoy it Henry.
And i've heard the "Walcott living up to his..." line so many times from my Arsenal friends before. But he's just never been consistent.
But even I must say that a hat trick against Croatia is something special

1 good game for rooney in 4 years, ill wait another 4 years for the next one.
Disappointing about croatia going down to 10 men at the start of the half, would have liked to have seen a full 90 mins with 2 full strength teams.

Even Lamps performed very well, and the only thing I can put that down to is no Stevie G on the field.
Those 2 can not play together...

Could be due to Croatia playing with 10 men?:)
But your right, Gerrard and Lumpard cant play together. Capello has to pick one.

edit: care to place a bet that it wont take four years... friendly wager and all that? :)
Well played England. What impressed me most was after going a goal up they get going forward.

The English press wanted him out before the game so the fact he scored and setup 2 goals against a 10 man team doesn't mean much to me.
His a pathetic striker who has now only scored 3 competitive goals in 4 years.
One good game doesn't make a good player, his going to be losing his spot in the Manchester starting line-up and I think sooner or later will be losing his spot in the English team ie. Crouch.
I say before the next world cup, Rooney wont have another good competitive game in the English colours.

Me and genius have been against rooney as a striker from the start, I see now other people are also seeing the light.
The biggest joke is him losing his spot as a first 11 in manchester, after all the manchester supporters were saying his a good striker and blaming ronaldo for his poor form. There is no ronaldo to blame in the england squad, so no excuse for his poor form over the last 4 years.
smokey

i dont see how people can blame ronaldo for his "bad" form - but he was the reason ronaldo got all the space he did. same with drogba. and id rather have drogba in my team than a hundred "better strikers" who will score more goals and not open up the game like he does.
Genius.
11-09-2008, 01:42 PM
I watched the game last night.
Good for Walcot - i still think he is the next big thing.
Good for Rooney - i still think he is a hopeless striker. He should play in the midfield or something.
Highlight of the game for me was, when Rooney scored and the commentator said he PASSED the ball in the net :D :D:D
I almost fell off my chair with laughter. Cos he got it SPOT on!!
United fan bois blame Ronaldo for Rooney's bad season last year. Yet he has the same bad form when he plays for England, so how can they blame Ronaldo.
I will also go as far as saying that Rooney wont have a good game for England in a long time.

Nobody was blaming Ronaldo for his 'bad form'. Rooney had a 'bad' season in terms of goals, but take away his contributions and United would not have wont he Double. It's as simple as that.

So when was Rooney's good season?
The year before that he played more games but only scored 14 goals and before that it was 16 (even more games). This is not counting his form with england, where in those 2 years he had scored about 1 competitive goal for england.
You missing the point as to why rooney is on the pitch, his not a midfielder his a "striker" this is why he will be losing his position in the manchester squad as a starting 11.
Genius.

Exactly. A Strikers job is to score goals. United okes like to sugercoat Rooneys performance and say, he isnt there just to score goals.
If a striker cant put it at the back of the net, then that striker isnt any good.

12-09-2008, 10:56 AM
That seems to be the hardest game out of the way for England now. Nothing too tricky until the Ukraine away game. Could be maximum points up to game 7  Maybe we'll qualify this time :o

Heskey was brought back into the squad for a second chance. He isnt a regular. Rather look when last he played for England regularly - compared to Rooney.
Geez, some okes are blinded by Rooney's performance and are trying to defend him when it is clear that he is not a good striker.

4-0 with 10mins to go. This will make it 6 wins out of 6. They play 10 games each in their groups, should give England at least one hand on tickets to the WC. Reckon if they can win another game that will be curtains for the rest.
Kazakhstan? Borat must be pissed off right now. :p
