Taxi drivers protest over fines

Oh boo hoo. Not so far above the law it seems, are we?

I'd guess that for 95% of the taxis out there, not one revolution of a white-walled tyre can be completed without some traffic rule being violated.

The traffic cops should deploy random spike strips along the roadsides to stop these guys from making up their own lanes. In fact, I've been thinking of doing it myself and setting up live webcams for some top class entertainment. Somewhere in the camera's field of view will be a sign saying 'YOU'VE BEEN PUNKTURED' or something along those lines. Anyone in the white-wall tyre business keen to finance me? :D

ROFLMAO :D Im sure just about the whole forum will sponsor you!

Fine the fsckers and put them in jail for infringing on people's right to life. They are a danger to their passengers and the general public at large.

I was driving up hill (blind rise) through an intersection doing about 70km/h (60 zone) and the robot began turning. So I added a little pace but not much more than 80km/h and comfortably was almost across the intersection when the traffic light turned orange. This taxi came careering through a turning only lane and into the red intersection (from his direction) without even stopping.

If I had not been driving a decent German vehicle with ABS/EBD/ESP, new tyres and new brake pads I would have hit him full on at 80km/h on his side. I doubt many of his passengers would have survived. My passengers would have been more than safe given crumple zones, front impact and 8 airbags.

I'm pretty sure those passengers in the taxi went from a dark brown to a whiter shade of pale.

To top it off I had just picked up my European friends from the airport: "Welcome to Africa motherf**ckers, now buckle up! This is going to be a bumpy ride!". :D

There were unconfirmed reports that the metropolitan police were impounding several hundred of the minibus taxis.

O_o

orly? That'd be a first for the metro cops!

Reminds me of the story of Nigerians protesting against anti-corruption and anti-419ers... "but its our biggest source of FDI....." LOL.

Guys I think I am going to strike over the speeding fine I received a while back.

I'm sorry but that was a criminal thing to do. It was a 60km zone, not 70 and not 80. Secondly, when you see the light change you're supposed to
decellerate not increase speed. You can only enter the intersection if outright stopping would be hazardous or impossible.

Do your European visitors drive like that too?
You complain about taxis yet you're no better yourself.

If you had crashed into me, I would have pursued a really heavy civil
action against you.

You see these idiots drive fast all the time and push through traffic lights. If you're late for work, tough s--t, get out of bed earlier!

Because you've never done 70 in a 60 zone? Because you've never gone through an orange traffic light? Because you've never done 130 km/h on the freeway? You do realise I went through on an ORANGE robot and the taxi went through on a RED TURNING ONLY LANE robot without looking... who do you think is at fault here? Me, who was slightly over the speed limit, or he who jumped a red light. Think about it... slowly...

When you get killed by a taxi pulling an illegal move and you die, who is gonna pursue legal action. I was within my rights, don't try to justify otherwise.

No, I would've pursued legal action because you're a stupid fscknut who believes he can enter a RED robot without looking through a TURNING ONLY lane. Well done, you're a far superior person to someone who entered on amber on a straight lane. Proud of yourself, because you just killed several people? Yes, please do sue, but you still entered a RED intersection through a TURNING ONLY lane. But heaven forbid someone drive 10kms over the speed limit

In high traffic situations as that one I would be more cautious. You were
already over the speed limit which in an urban, high traffic zone is there
for a purpose, AND you accellerated to clear a yellow light. Then you wonder
why you almost crashed into a taxi. Had you been on a freeway with
no traffic and good visibility - by all means go at 180km/h if you want.

First of all, had you driven RESPONSIBLY you'd not have had that problem.
Secondly you complain about the taxi driver yet you commited two
traffic violations yourself?
Part of driving is not only looking after yourself but also making sure you're
looking out for all those morons on the road - especially the taxis.

In this case, its the pot calling the kettle black?

I agree, good heavens, 70 km/h in a 60 zone! Fsck never! 130 km/h on the highway! Wow, he must be a golden god!

Whatever, but where do you draw the line then, eh? The taxi driver will probably say the same thing as everything is relative and subjective,
once you bend rules, who's to say how far you can bend them???

Remember you went 80 over the intersection where a good % of deadly
accidents occur, just because people try to clear the red light.

A yellow light means = CAUTION, ie slow down. You don't have to stop
outright but you're fundamentally wrong in going faster. Your reasoning
then changes to reliance on airbags and crush zones which are
not there to compensate for recklessness but for unavoidable circumstances.

Hmmm - you need to read his post carefully - he said that he was almost across the intersection when it turned yellow - are you really suggesting that he should slow down?
