The decision of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Fikile Mbalula to undergo circumcision at the age of 37 set an example to other leaders in a similar situation, a prominent traditional leader said on Thursday.

He said the ritual was normally performed at the age of 18 when a boy began the advance into maturity and could grasp teachings and words of wisdom imparted to him by elders.

LOL !! wonder who else failed to make the maturity leap at 18 :D

Thats explains a lot about his childish behaviour :p

Crazy, although I'm sure Mbalula is not insane enough to date my neighbor who is HIV+

Why? Because he is still vulnerable to HIV, just like the half-million circumcised-at-birth US men who have died of AIDS. In Cameroon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, and Tanzania, the circumcised are the ones with the higher HIV incidence.

Circumcision does not prevent AIDS.

the life expectancy in sa is just over 40. How can he still be a youth at his advanced age of 37? Ancyl should review their outdated age policy. Yes people used to live longer, but that was under the previous government and was politicaly 'incorrect' :D

I also commend him for the brave step he has taken, no doubt he has been the butt of jokes regarding this, so now it is time to put it past him.

And this is not only about circumcision, but is a right of of passage into manhood. Similar to many other faiths and beliefs throughout the world.

I know people like him hate being called an idiot, they know it is true and therefore it annoys them.

One of the reasons mooted for his circumcision was that he was forced by Western Cape leaders of the ANC who did not want him to interfere with a provincial conference. Considering that he will be away for at least three weeks it gives Skwatsha's camp enough time to use strong-arm tactics against branches. This congress would choose the party's new leaders in the province which the ANC will probably lose at the next elections to a possible DA/ID/? coalition of smaller parties.
