Hello,

I've recently been given some information regarding MyWireless. I would like to know if many of you would be interested in buying an unbundled package (ie, purchase modem outright and then pay a lower monthly fee) in the Roodepoort (and possibly beyond) area.

The nice part is, you can get a signal test without any sort of risk - the signal test is free. You also have the option of having a shared network installation installed, so you can use your MyWireless over several computers.

If you'd be interested, please send me an email at donovan@cairney[remove].co.za; don't forget to remove the [remove] part.

I do apologise in advance if anyone feels this is a shameless punt for myself, but I think someone in Roodepoort (in fact, in Johannesburg as a whole) with knowledge, experience, connections and a willingness to help others with this is needed.

UPDATE: I (and my partner in Pretoria - Deon) are now officially nowire agents. For information, please direct your enquiries as follows:
* JOHANNESBURG enquiries: Donovan [email protected]
* PRETORIA enquiries: Deon [email protected]
EDIT: Changed the title.

YES, It's a shameless plug but go for it [8D]

Personally I think it's a good thing to provide the services.

As long as you also explain the risks to those going online 24/7

Hehe [:D]

Well basically I have been given the opportunity to become a sub-dealer for nowire for johannesburg - but I'm based in the west so I thought it would be a good place to start.

Let's expand this post to include the whole of JHB... and now?

The pricing will be as follows:

For each option, you will need to buy the modem. It is R 3500 inclusive of VAT.

There will be an R 85 fee for any delivery, signal test, or call out.

For the 12 Month contracts:
128k = R549 pm
256k = R748 pm
512k = R1429 pm

For the 24 Month contracts:
128k = R499 pm
256k = 699 pm
512k = R1349 pm

Please note that these prices will need to be confirmed, but you can pretty much bank on the above being correct. If you order an unbundled package, there is less hassle in terms of providing documents/etc like you do with sentech, it's far easier to get mywireless this way (ie by paying for the modem upfront).

Donovan,

Since you are brave enough to come out of the woods, why not ! go for it.

have a look at http://www.ods.co.za/ [:D] Please note we cover JHB, PTA and CPT. [:D]

I would've thought it would work out a lot cheaper, but in the long run, it doesn't.

The standard MyWireless 128k 24month with modem is R649 per month, R150 more than the 24 month indicated here. So, multiply R150 x 24 months = R3600 for the modem your paying, which is only R100 more than the offer here.

Still, the 12 month contract is pretty cool I guess - and as you say, you get less hastle with getting approved etc.

If you can afford the initial R3500 outlay of cash that is.
I'll admit if I would've had the ready cash and this option was available when I got MyWireless, I would've seriously considered it.

Hello,

Going unbundled from the start doesn't really represent a saving in cash; however, it does present a benefit in that you will be online as soon as you purchase the modem (no 8 week wait, no endless calls to sentech, etc).

For example, if you ask for me to come and do a signal test tomorrow, and you decide to sign up tomorrow, you will be online tomorrow (on an interim user name - your "final" username will be given to you within 3 weeks). You simply pay for the modem (R 3500) and activation (R 500) by electronic transfer or cash etc, and thats it. Instant internet.

Also, we do a signal test before you buy the modem (for R 85, which isn't even a third of the cost that some other agents are charging), so you know for sure whether you have signal or not BEFORE you sign a contract.

I'm officially an agent now (have stock of modems, the appropriate forms and everything), so anyone who needs MyWireless can give me a try [:)]

Also, I'll be setting up a new web site with more information soon. Will keep you posted.

No, there is no new modem that is available in SA. The ones I have in stock are the same ones that you see on the sentech web site.

As far as I know, there has been a newer "version" of the modem released (go to www.ipwireless.com, and look at the PDF information sheet, it has a picture of the new one), but it is not available in SA. I doubt that they will bring a newer model in so soon after the service has launched. It would make the rollout even more complicated, which I don't think is a good idea at the moment.

Also, if you have a look at any of the international SP's using the IPW technology, none of them are using a modem that is much different to our one.

I have a feeling that when it's time for everyone to renew their contracts in two years, a new modem will be made available.

With whom is our 1 year contract,with you or nowire or Sentech.

Do we get sentech mail and other related Sentech services, or is it up to nowire or yourself to supply us with e-mail and value added servies.

If we have problem with our service eg we can't connect or the modem blows up who do we contact you or nowire or sentech.

If we call you for signal test and we agree to join up.
What information is need from us if we take the option to buy the modem, eg payslip or is just fill in a few forms and we done.
Is creditcard or saving account considerable(debit order) not willing to open up a cheque account because thats what "sentech" wants.

Hello,

The contract is between you and NoWire. There is an option of either a one or two year contract.

You do get an email address: it will be (username)@sentechsa.com. This, and your service, is provided by Sentech in the same way that Sentech supplies service to all bundled contract subscribers.

If you have any problem with the service, then you call NoWire's support helpdesk (NOT Sentech). If there is a problem with your modem, they are by default supplied with a 12 month gaurentee (ie, if it blows up, NoWire will replace it).

If you decide to sign up through us, we will need R 3500 for the modem, and R 500 activation fee. This is transferred to me as an agent of NoWire (cash or electronic transfer, NoWire does not allow us to accept cheques unfortunately). On application you will need to fill in the application form (which asks for your name/address/ID/banking details), which you need to sign. This is for the montly payments, which depend on the package you choose.

That is all you need to do. You will be online immediately - there is no need to submit for example payslips to NoWire, although I think that they reserve the right to request it, in the unlikely event that they might want it. NB: unlikely.

Credit card payment is more than welcome (the options are either credit card or debit order - but I don't think that a savings account would work at the moment).

I hope this answers your question [:)]

Hmm.. thats interesting.

Still, the new modem has not yet been released as far as I know. All my and other agent's stock is still the modem you see on the sentech web site.

I will find out more tomorrow and keep you all posted.
Check out http://www.nowire.co.za. They have the pic of the new modem (If it is) on the home page.

A clear conscience is a sign of bad memory!

Personally I don't care WHO's turf it is... rather take the marketing/advertising OUT of the forums.

This is about helping people help themselves and improving broadband for all in this country.
