Is it just me or does it seem that Telkom has what MS word calls a "template" for responding to complaints. Every single unique complaint has got the identical Telkom reply that all the others were subjected to.

The 3-Gigabyte cap protects users from a small minority of people who abuse the service and use it for purposes it was not intended for. ADSL is not a constant bit rate service such as for example Diginet.

The 3-Gigabyte cap is measured on total usage per month including both local and international volumes up and downloaded. Once a subscriber exceeds the 3-Gigayte cap, he/she is re-directed to a more limited international pipe for the remainder of the month<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

They just repeat things over and over again, do they think that the consumer is a 1 year old that will learn to accept things by repetition?? Why don't they want to give any body a decent answer, or do they know that if they say anything different, they will probably contradict themselves and then prove themselves to be in the wrong??
Please tell me if im being wrong?

P.S: Don't bet on the S.N.O, Matsepe-Casaburri has thus far been left as the head of communications

Whoop Di Doo Basil...But What Does It All Mean???

I agree, they offer nothing new in this response, and in fact don't answer to the complaint at all.

It is important to note what is not said:

Complaint:
"inadequate international network resources, which degrade the service to an extent that it is poorer than a dialup service."

Telkom does not indicate that there is sufficient international bandwidth. Nor does it indicate how this is determined. Nor does it quantify how much bandwidth is available per user (the International Contention ratio). Nor does Telkom provide statistics on the congestion (or lack thereof) on the international pipe available to ADSL subscribers.

If Icasa accepts the Telkom response as significant, I don't have much hope for the future.

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Hellkom has 21% acces to the 130Gbps SAT3 cable - 27.3Gbps of bandwidth.. congestion can definitely not be a factor. We get bandwidth a touch cheaper because of NEPAD and interconnect agreements between 1st and 3rd world countries.

They are charging R680 here what costs 20 pounds in the UK:

20 quid * 12.5 exchange rate = R250, and that includes ISP charges.

We are paying 3 times the amount what 10 year old kids have in their room and can pay for with their pocket money. The profit they are making is outrageous, the rand has strengthened over 100% against the dollar since post 9/11 and almost as much with all other major currencies. The pound was 18:1 at one stage and now it's almost 12:1 again. Nah, their profit margin is massive.

Of course they do. Why would they want to waste their time typing this trash out more than once? That would be like... having a real person reading out the time for 1026.
