Sugguestions for people with no signal

Does anyone know of a way by some means of technology (satellites etc) to get signal if you currently not getting signal but you are 10km from a tower in my case the tower is Lytellton in Pretoria.

Is Sentech working on some kind of device that will allow you to get signal if you out 10-20km out of the zone.

Why didn't Sentech implement MyWireless based on the same infrastructure that DSTV uses?

Does anyone have an idea when the whole of pta and jhb will be covered? Approx how many years.

Lyttleton is not up yet, so you'll have to hop to Sunnyside or Menlopark. You can try hopping with 802.11b if you know (enough) people in the region. Or just go for ADSL.

Internet using DSTV technology is available from Sentech's Infosat subsidiary, but it's one way. There is also a much more expensive VSAT technology.

Rumours are that it's going to be long before new Gauteng tower comes on stream, except for JHB International,[12] N

It seems to me that Sentech's biggest problem in covering Gauteng is where they have to build new towers. Getting permission to build etc.

These towers are basically ready to go just awaiting some environmental impact studies according to what I have been told so switch on can happen tomorrow or next week for all we know depending on when approval is given from the "tree-huggers". As to how long before the entire Gauteng area is covered who knows. There is talk about them upgrading sometime in future so that the singal stops being line of sight but more like a cellular type singal, but when that will happen and if it will happen is all up in the air.

If you Dont have a signal and you are fairly close to a tower there is either a Patch antenna which strengthens a weak singal or a High Gain antenna which strenghtens and brings a singal closer to you. The one is just a little antenna and the other is a dish.

You can get Vsat which is bi-directional sateliate and then Mywireless which has the tower coverage constraints.
