Wii - LCD Monitor or TV

Hello everyone.

I just bought a Wii console and now I do not know whether I should get a TV or LCD monitor (24" minimum). I'm looking to spent R4000 - R5000(max), even secondhand.

What is a decent display response time and contrast ratio that would be ok for some of the other (more high-def) Wii titles? Or does all this even make a difference?

The monitor option seems cheaper, but then i need to get the vga cable (probably import) + additional speakers (= increased costs). From what I've read,the vga cables are not performing 100%.

So basically, can someone please tell me what's the minimum specs that I should go for to get a good gaming experience?

The Wii has no HD capabilities. So it will be normal 480p.

Get a cheapish TV dude. No use in wasting money on a "uber" display for SD gaming!
 
I'd disagree. If you want to spend that you can get a reasonable 720p 32" LCD, look around for a name brand you might be able to get a Samsung for about R5700, but those other ones aren't necessarily bad.

Rather buy something a little bit future proof in case you want to upgrade later.
 
Get a nice sized (read 74cm or up) tv. The Wii should be played on a large srceen in the lounge so this is best. As for response time 8ms is fine, don't get conned int othe better more expensive models, there's no visible difference.
 
LOL man. Get a 74cm R1700 Hi Fi corp crt tv.

When you get a 360 of ps3/blu ray you can get a decent lcd.

That would be a waste of cash.

If you have the money rather get a decent TV - the Wii can do 480p widescreen which will look significantly better upscaled onto an LCD than faffing around with a bent blurry 480i midrange crt.
 
Wii played in a widescreen format comes into its own when multiplaying - I've played on both normal and wide settings (on our 32" LCD and a friend's 51cm TV), and wide is most certainly more satisfying. I've also found a difference when connecting using component cables (R70 @ Toys'R'Us Centurion) vs normal AV. Get the LCD - even if you get a "better?" console later you'll still be able to use the LCD.

Thanks for all this info guys. I've decided to go 32" LCD TV!!! Noe the ques is Samsung (R5799) or Sony (R4999)? Pls help!!!
 
I'm a Samsung fan TBH ... their screen technology is phenomenal.

Do you have model numbers so that we can compare the specs?
 
I also tend rather towards Samsung, but both are excellent brands. Eyeball them both and decide for yourself.

The other thing is that if it's for gaming, try play on them first to check there's no significant motion blur.
