Anybody playing online games?

Has anybody been using MyWireless to regularly play online games, and if so, what are you playing?

I know that the poor pings are pointless for FPS, but I'd like to know what ppl's personal experiences/game recommendations are.

hehe ... actaully played a couple of CS:CZ via MyWireless .. not great but do-able...

Warcraft3 isn't too bad and for those that can still remember the classic - StarCraft ... works VERY well ;-)

hooked on americas army... and its a free download off the net.

play local saix server with ping around 230ms. ping bad but strange enough no shudder or jerk. international americas army servers ping around 400ms. and still no shudder on game at all. smooth smooth smooth... my signal strength 17%
 
NOT that I'd admit to the wife that the MyWireless is for GAMING ;-) hehehe

i've been trying to get onto a Neverwinter Nights server somewhere, but i'm struggling to get my machine to connect to the gamespy network - need to get the firewall settings right... bljeg...

The saix server tells me my CD key is unauthorised - which is bollocks, I have the original game!

I imagine one can get away with playing BF1942 or one of those more tactical FPS games, since you could play a sniper or medic which doesn't need small pings?

I vaguely recall someone mentioning on here that they play Star Wars Galaxies online. Was just wondering if they were using ADSL or MyWireless.

Also, if using MyWireless, is the game playable in combat mode and what are your thoughts on the up and coming Lightspeed Expansion where the twitch element of space combat will be introduced.

hey

I play cs online, i get 120 average but it spikes like mad and its very jerky , got 15% signal , havnt tried any other games,[:(] sux but i got my isdn for playing games. [:p]

I think it has been mentioned, but MyWi is not suitable for playing FPS games - too much latency...

I know that FPS are basically out for MW, I'm seeking info about which games ppl have been able to play without lag frustrations

i'm hoping to play Neverwinter Nights on it :) I'm sure if it's something that's not THAT ping intensive - it should work, i.e anything that's not a FPS?

Well, i was on the Lineage II beta (RPG) and it worked fine! Didn't have a problem and that was before the "optimization" (i'm actually one of the people who has a better online xperience due to it!)

Been playing Dark Age of Camelot via wireless since the service became available in Jan. Also some Anarchy Online and Lineage II Beta. Before that I was on ADSL.

Works brilliantly. Much better than ADSL did (Due to the bandwidth shaping crap). I'm getting a roughly 350ms ping to the States servers which is just fine. Hardly ever get Link Dead anymore. I have had 3 people playing Camelot over my 128k connection and was still great. The whole reason I swapped from ADSL is so that I could keep playing MMORPGs. For some reason Telkom doesn't like them very much.

However, as everybody points out, it's not so goof for FPS games. 100 ping which spikes to like 300 -400 constantly, compared to ADSL 20 ping.

Also gonna start SW Galaxies soon. Dunno how much if any twitch factor can be introduced there. MMORPGs tend to have lotsa people playing at any one time. As in thousands, not 100. So unless they have a Cray IX running the game server lag is going to be as bad if not close to our network lag. Happens now in Cammie when you have big Raids or RvR battles. The server lag becomes more of a problem than network lag.
 
Hey go check out Guild Wars as well. They're opening it up to the public during E3 (12 - 14 May), before they go into beta later this year. Apparently the developers are a ex-blizzard team. Their will be no subscription fee once it's released, you'll only pay for the boxed game.
 
Play Dark Ages of Camelot as well...its fine, some spikes , nothing major. Have had it a few times that I go LD(Link Dead) during peak times, when in major battles. It also lags out pretty bad in major battles. Lotsa PL then. I'm talking bout &gt;50 People+15 NPC monsters people in line of view.
I also run a buffbot sometimes, the extra conection to the game has no affect on Lag. Running 1 Account or 3 doesnt make a difference as far as I have seen.

The LD and Lag is caused by the updating of the game, maybe there is a way of getting passed this, if there is I would LOVE to know. I will experience uber lag in big battles, while my BOT is still dandy , since he is not close to the action.

Dont know why in major battles though, prob just not updating fast enough, then the PL kicks in. And also only seems to be like that between 7pm-10pm.

Yeah downloaded and played Guild Wars this morning.

Seemed ok, but I was not that impressed. Looked alot like Diablo II, but better graphics.
 
JAAAA!!!!! For sure. Can't wait! That damn thing is taking to long to release! Have you read the player journals?

The guys from Penny Arcade are beta testers and they've heaped a lot of praise on the game. I'm not much of a gamer but I may just order MyWireless just in order to play this game. [:D]
