When I thought my week couldn't get any worse. Chick and now Flu.

My Bantam which I got last year on 23 November brand new off the show room. Which has done 17 000KM since then. Has its own garage stays inside and is always looked after.

So today when I dropped the maid off in town, I noticed the Bantam has rust developing at the back. "Where the back number plate is."

I mean seriously WTF it is not even a year old:confused:
 
I had the same problem with a bantam i bought new in 2001. 6 months later rust starts showing. so they repair and 6 months later it came through again.

Recently I had to hire a bantam. it had 30k on the clock and little rust spots all over the place.

My opinion? Never buy a piece of cr@p Bantam.
 
My '93 bantam has more rust than steel. My dogs have gotta ride on the front seat 'cos they'd fall through the rust holes in the back. Who cares? Still goes.
 
... I ask, salt etc in the air from the ocean etc won't help.

I know someone who owns a bantam too, lived in town, never had problems for 3 years, now moved to strand and 2 months after, started moaning about rust.

happens... if u move to areas close to beaches / oceans etc.
 
Being in Somerset West it is about 20 minutes away from the beach. What gets me though, my aunts car. 1997 Toyota Corolla she has had it since 1997, lived here in the same house etc.

It has no rust, here is my Bantam new and it is already starting with rust. I dunno under a year seems bad.

Well, I guess the bantam manufacturer decided to cut costs by skipping the anti-rust bath step.:rolleyes:

I had a new bantam a couple of years ago (1st of the new shape - the diesel, a dog of a thing. Sold it after 6 months as I got sick of being overtaken by interstate trucks) and I clearly remember the two big things the sales guy went on about : the silky smooth gearchange and the anti-corrosion protection. . Looks like you maybe got a friday car - they skipped the anti-rust bath step indeed. :mad:
 
This nonsense about expecting rust because we live by the sea is complete bollox. A car may have a reduced lifespan and a car may need to have any deep scratches and bare metal areas taken care of pronto but this is exactly what the then quality control guy from Ford tried to tell me when I complained of rust after 6 months on a new car.

I told him exactly where to stick his ideas in no uncertain terms.

Sea air contains salt - sodium chloride. It's acid. Unless you drive a Delorean, you can expect your car to rust quicker down by the seaside. That's simply the reality, whether you like it or not. Personally, I'd rather live near the sea and drive an old rustbucket than live in Gauteng and have a squeaky clean rust-free car. But hey, that's just me.

I agree it will rust quicker but under a year is pathetic
 
Hey, drive it, don't ever wash it, and watch it rust and fall apart right before your eyes. It'll look like a true Ford in no time.

This rust issue is definitely a manufacturer fault. Ford/Mazda is seriously got something wrong when they treat the metal during the manufacturing process.

There are three people that I personally know who owns/owned a Mazda Midge, Ford Lazer. All of these cars come from the same family. From the Hatchback to bakkie. All of them has rust now. They were purchased from new.

I know the air at the coast make things worse but only if the metal is exposed. If a car is properly treated and all the metal is sealed using the correct process rust cannot form by itself.

I would sell the car asap or be prepared to spent a lot later on repairs and dont even start thinking about getting a good price when the time comes to sell.
