Hi there everyone.

My one friend has this laptop

Lenovo 3000 TY2BLZA (0769-BLG) N200 Series Notebook, Intel Pentium Duo T2300 1.66Ghz 533Mhz FSB 1MB L2 Cache, 1024MB DDR2-667 SO-Dimm Memory (1x1024), 120GB SATA 5400rpm Hard Drive, 15.4" WXGA VibrantView (1280x800 resolution) TFT LCD Display, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 shared graphics, DVD Writer DL optical drive, 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, 6 cell battery, 5-in-1 Card reader, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Reader

He asked me what operating system he should install on it. I suggested Windows XP, as I feel the specs of the laptop will suit it better. Not to mention I do not think the graphics card is ideal for Windows Vista "Aero"

Also noting the fact it is known that Vista uses more battery life etc.

What do you all think?

Windows XP or Windows Vista?

Agreed with the above posters. With only 1gb of RAM, I wouldn't want to run Vista on it. Not to say it won't work, it just won't be very pleasant, I suspect. I have a similarly spec'd laptop and remember that Vista actually ran surprisingly smoothly, but that was before I actually installed anything with which to be productive. Formatted and installed XP the same day I got the machine.

Vista will work perfectly fine...but I'd still go with XP.

You can put a nice theme on it if your buddy wants some bling. I like Luna Element Blue.

Vista will work, but all else being equal... You might as well get XP. Vista is kind of pointless if you don't need DX10, or its few other major new features.

Vista has NEVER EVER worked fine.
Not once!
NOWHERE!!!!

I hate vista

some of the development guys at work are running vista business on machines with 1gb ram and not having any issues. but xp with sp3 is probably the safest bet

Vista runs fine with 1gb of memory.

I have tested it on a several laptops and it runs 100%. Besides memory is so cheap any laptop you buy you should add another gig of memory.
