Best Budget Latop R6k

Which is curent best deal on a laptop around that budget..

The user wants Windows XP. not willing to move one that one. (vista has a bad image)

any suggstions ?
was thinking 1.6 duo core and 2gig of ram ?

I'm not a up to date on laptops now, but from what I've seen in the adds, you wont get that for the budged you are looking for. When I bought mine, I got the best value for money at macro, specific their Fujitsu siemens range. Not best on the market, but well priced.

PC Zones birthday special has an Acer 1.86GHz dual core with 2GB of RAM for R5999. Has Vista Business though.
 
I would recommend looking at Fujitsu Siemens laptops from Makro. Their prices are good, and after sale service is apparently good, (I have never had to use it touch wood). I bought myself one about 2 years ago and it is still running strong! Unfortunately you are unlikely to find a new lappie out there with XP on, but remember that the Vista key is backward compatible, so you could easily just scrub it and install XP.

Even though I am not the biggest Acer fan, that is a pretty dam good price!
 
I like the Asus range currently pushed by Rectron, decent quality (so far) and they give you the XP discs in the box should you decide to upgrade the Vista to something decent.
