A while back I played around with a Nokia 5000, a phone that was made for developing countries like SA. The main drawing power of the phone is the QVGA screen and also 1.3megapixel camera. All that at below R1000. While the screen is pretty decent for a 2" 65k screen the camera takes a little more effort to appreciate.

The main drawback of this fixed focus shooter is that the pictures are heavily compressed due to the phone's rather small 10mb storage. Normally 1.3mp jpegs are around 300kb in size. This phone compresses them to around 150kb, and that is on highest quality setting. On basic quality you get them in sizes of about 70kb. Compression artifact mayhem galore...

This results in not so pleasant images when viewed at full size on a 1280x1024 display. Still fine to view on phone screens.

Have a look for yourself : http://www.flickr.com/photos/nokia5000/page4/ the original sized ones are straight from the phone.

Perhaps not a good camera phone, but at the price I think it is a sweet deal.
