While I think some of Ron Paul's libertarian ideas are interesting, the guy is a Creationist, so I would carefully check anything he says. Someone who supports Creationism may well have plenty of other wacky ideas.

And someone who does not support creationism may have perfectly good ideas - see Joseph Stalin.

BTW did you know that Sir Isaac Newton was an alchemist?

Ron Paul is a medical doctor, he is also a self taught economist. I would rather have him as a leader than some smug, pampered and spoon fed atheist.

Plus, there's a difference between being a creationist and being a new earth creationist. You can still believe that God created everything. That doesn't mean you believe the world is 6000 years old.

Self-taught, to me, means unqualified. Would you like a self-taught surgeon operating on you? I wouldn't. Having the formal qualification may not mean you're necessarily any good, but it is good to have a baseline to start from. By analogy, you could have a surgeon doing a new and controversial procedure, but it would be nice to know the surgeon is at least qualified as a conventional surgeon.

I'm not sure where atheism fits into this. There are plenty of religious people (including the Pope) who do not agree with Creationism.

My point is not that Ron Paul is wrong, but that I would carefully check anything he says, given that he's prepared to go against overwhelming scientific consensus on scientific subjects.
 
Ron Paul might not be correct on every issue but he is the only US congressman I respect.
