The Mind
The Mind of a taxi driver is one which should not be under-estimated. Never mess with a taxi driver while he is driving the taxi, he is the law of the road, he owns the road, he makes the rules of the road and you are on his turf, so you should show appropriate respect when you drive on HIS road.
In the mind of a taxi driver, his taxi is the best thing since sliced bread, and white walled tires and small tekkies hanging from the towbar shall not be scorned at. You shall respect the saying "Nyakaza Ndoda" which means "Just drive, man!"
In the mind of a taxi driver, all road users, including Putco buses, regular cars and trucks, don't know how to drive and they are merely obstacles in his way that need to be dealt with by force.
Never Argue with a taxi driver about his style of driving, or tell him that he cant drive. This will either lead to one of two effects.
1) he will shout out the window at you, expletives in Zulu, Tswana, Pedi, Sotho and a select remainder of the 11 official langauges. His comrades will appear from nowhere and together, with their taxi's they will try and box you in.
2) He will produce a knopkierrie, panga, or baton and proceed to whack the roof of your car until you either speed away in fear or run away.
The Taxi
This is the taxi driver's most prized possession, and should be treated with kindness and respect and awe. Not every taxi driver can own such a fast and outstanding taxi adorned with many slogans, for example "KOMPRESSOR" on the door, and "HOME SWEET HOME" on the rear windscreen. You are allowed to drool over it, just make sure you dont damage the paint work or the whitewalled tires/toyota sprinter hubcaps.
