Is anyone playing this?

I'm going to start playing it tonite - looking forward to it!

It got a raving review on gamespot, 8.9!

This should keep me busy for a while!

check it out on www.cityofheroes.com

will do... soon as i get to play it. went out for a business dinner last night, so i didn't get time to play. but i'll make up for that tonite.

eventhough my shipment of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season 1 - 4 arrived today from Amazon.com - so much to do, so little time!

Kai, I assume you will play City of Heroes on your MyWireless connection?
I'm particularly interested to know whether the combat involved in CoH is playable on MyW

City of Heroes looks sweet ;)

it was FREAKIN' awesome!!!

the most fun i've had in a long time - hence the playing till 03:00 on Saturday morning AND on Sunday morning... now i'm zombie!

grrr... argh! *does zombie walk*

the fact that i'm busy getting flu doesn't help much, 'cos it'll detract from my playing time!

it's lots of fun guys! for sure! Definately a good game to play!

If you guys going to play - come to the Freedom server and give Tanque, Modain, BlueByrd, Nikla or FlameKnight a shout...

i'm Tanque, the others are all friends also from SA.

Don't hesitate to give me a shout if you want more info on the game.

Yo Kai. Give us a low down on the performance of the game over MyW - lag details, problems etc
Also how much is the CoH subscription costing you?

<font color="blue">Telkom needs a leash, ICASA needs some guts, and the </font id="blue"><font color="red">SA consumer</font id="red"><font color="blue"> needs to make it happen</font id="blue">

lowdown follows:

i have had very few hiccups with the connection - every now and again (very seldom) i get a warp or two, but other than that, no problems whatsoever. Fights - I don't loose a lot of them, so that has to say something? :) The reactions are immediate - no lag.

I have three buddies that are playing it on MyWi as well, and they are also trouble free.

I had a bit of a slowdown (lots of warps) on Saturday afternoon, but not for too long...

it runs really well on MyWi.

As for the subscription: You pay $50 for the game (includes your first month) and then $14.99 a month after that.

Thanks dude - I'm very encouraged...if anything I may well get MyWireless just for the ability to play online MMORPGs...just with all the chaos surrounding speeds etc, I'm a bit worried about signing up for any length of time...

If I do end up getting MW, I'll definitely look you guys up in CoH...

One more question - where did u get your copy of CoH from?

<font color="blue">Telkom needs a leash, ICASA needs some guts, and the </font id="blue"><font color="red">SA consumer</font id="red"><font color="blue"> needs to make it happen</font id="blue">

i got it from a friend who downloaded it with his MyWi :)

it's an 850Meg download - i know someone who downloaded it overnight on his 256k MyWi package :)

that's one way of getting it - download. You can also order the game from Amazon, but downloading makes much more sense, or if you ask me nice enough, I might cut you a copy :)

I assume it was a paid download cos otherwise you wouldn't be able to get into the servers?
And yes I may just start pretty pleasing, let me see what happens with getting a MW connection [;)]

<font color="blue">Telkom needs a leash, ICASA needs some guts, and the </font id="blue"><font color="red">SA consumer</font id="red"><font color="blue"> needs to make it happen</font id="blue">

If City of Heroes is playable on MyWireless, does that mean it will DEFINITELY be playable on ADSL? I stand corrected, but does ADSL not achieve better international latency than MyWireless?
Cheers.

It should be the case but you have to remember that ADSL has port shaping. I think City of Heroes, like many others, runs on non-standard ports.

it is a paid download yes. you pay first, then you get access to download the game.

it's a serious amount of fun though! :)

Kai,

Which server are you guys playing on? Three of us going to start tonight / maybe tomorrow night and would like to go where other SA players are.

Yu can download the game without paying, but you need the cd-key to play which is going to cost you anyway. But if you shop around you can get it elsewhere for cheaper than $50. I generally use www.cdromshop.com and ask them to e-mail us the cd-key and then destroy the box. Saves on shipping. This works great and they have done it a number of times for me and my friends (Star Wars Galaxies, City oh Heroes, Dark age of Camelot etc.). Never had a problem. In fact we have done it so many times that they now advertise it as a service on their site.

anyhow, if you want to download it :

(ftp) : client.coh.com
user : coh
pass : client

coh_cd1.zip
coh_cd2.zip

The files are about 450mb each. Took me roughly 2 days to download on a MyWireless 128. You will need a decent ftp proggie to get these. I use Bulletproof ftp. The files are hidden so make sure you use list -al

Or if someone just wants to buy the keys and is too lazy to download, they can get copies of the disks from me (Randparkridge area).
