Rumored to be released this OCt (14th to be precise), when do u think they will show up in our iStores?

Or is there going to be a major upgrade of the MB or MBP? with new intel 35nm montevino chip?

It's all speculation at the moment. Read this post on macrumors

Basically though there is absolutely no confirmation of new Macbooks. If new Macbooks are launched on October 14th a variety of factors will influence their launch in SA.

I have 5 macs and personally I avoid buying 1st generation apple products, wait or them to iron out the bugs in the 2nd generation.

You're assuming they actually release new Macbooks. At the rate we're going it'll never happen!

I won't be able to afford one... :(
maybe the next revision if I'm lucky

Edit:
Maybe this is the reason behind the delay?
The MacBook Brick is a block of high-quality, aircraft grade aluminum. It is the beginning.
The beginning of what?
It is the beginning of the new Apple manufacturing process to make MacBooks. It is totally revolutionary, a game changer. One of the biggest Apple innovations in a decade.
The MacBook manufacturing process up to this point has been outsourced to Chinese or Taiwanese manufacturers like Foxconn. Now Apple is in charge. The company has spent the last few years building an entirely new manufacturing process that uses lasers and jets of water to carve the MacBooks out of a brick of aluminum.
(Yes, this sounded a bit crazy to us as well. But our source is adamant so bear with us. He says Apple has built a manufacturing process that would make Henry Ford proud.)

My current 17" still has enough life left in it to last a couple more years :o Putting an a new, faster hdd (7200) has made quite a difference. :)

No doubt my macbook is good for years to come, but if the rumours of the new macbooks being allumnium turn out to be true I will be craving one of them :o

But hey if the source quoted above is reliable the macbook prices may come down :)

There are rumors that Photoshop CS4 will be released on the same day (October 14)....might we see a new line of Mac Pro's too?

Another interesting rumor is that the new Macbook's would be using Nvidia's chipset and not Intels ones. This might be an indication that the new Macbook's would have dedicated GPU's if not then a GPU capable of some decent graphics rendering! :-)

No news in the Channel at the moment, just that Core have put a 6 - 9 week delay on the current model Macbook's.

Yah, I read that somewhere as well (macrumors.com??). I would like to see the OS X move from power hungry GPU (Nvidia) to one that uses just the built-in card on the fly (without having to reboot)---apparently this is possible in the new T and Z-series Sonys. Imagine what Snow Leapard will achieve, smaller footprint, better hardware and less power consumption...man, this is too good to be true!

So basically everyone agrees that we should just buy the machine in the US, right?

Yes.

More photo's posted on macrumors today.

There is speculation now that they may just release them without a media event. I'm wondering if the chaos in world markets isn't making them think twice about the release. The release in a "normal" market would have a very positive impact on their stock price, especially considering all the flack they got for the new iPod's. If they launched now, the market probably wouldn't notice.

BTW, if someone is kind enough to get that machine for you in the states, do it. The local "support" is not enough to justify buying it here.

Word on the street is that there will be a Macbook starting from $800 which means it might be getting cheaper to be a Mac owner.

I saw that too $800 Macbook would be great! Bad news from the Channel tho, there are rumors about that Core are raising their prices by 20% on all Apple Equipment to cope with the Rand Exchange... :-( This is apparently going to happen within the next 2 weeks.
