Got home today from RAGE with my brand new, very pretty Samsung 2232GW.

Ripped open the packaging and set it up.

It doesn't work FFS!!!

The screen has power but it is almost totally dark - desktop is faintly visible if you shine a torch on it. Tested the monitor on another PC using a LCD monitor but no joy

I'm thinking this is backlight failure.

Now to try and return the thing tomorrow - should I take it back to Rage or try to find one of the dealer's branches that are open on a Sunday?

Take it back to Rage, lol :p Shout out loud! :D

Sorry dude! You obviously got a DOA. Just get it replaced.....don't know whether you'll have any luck tomorrow though :-(

It's just an unlucky buy, you had just as much (if not greater) odds of getting a faulty LG.

That's what warranties are for.

I know; I just seem to have bad luck with Samsung. :) and no problems with LG

Don't tease - I was like a kid at Christmas :(

I'm thinking I really should have taken the LG. How important is response time any way?

Kids on Christmas can't ever be like a guy who just got a cool gadget :p

Response time? I don't know :p

Samsung response time = 2ms
LG response time = 5ms

Is this a huge difference or is it negligible? I use my PC for surfing, gaming and watching DVDs or TV

a dead samsung lcd is better than a working lg one :P

Well I don't really see the response time as a problem, I'm sorry but those people out there who complain about a 4ms difference is a, well, stupid...

For me, its certainly not worth the extra $$$.

This is me from 16ms to 6ms and I don see much difference..

And hash, do what you want, they both good although I like Samsung slightly better

Dude I personally don't think that LG LCD's or CRT's for that matter are very good screens. The company I work for only sells the LG screens and they look cr@p compared to my 4year old Samsung SyncMaster 753S...

Samsung FTW!!!!!! :D (Yeah, Yeah.... I'm a Sumsung fanboy :D :D :D :D )

Ahh, the trusty 753S, we've got two at home ;)

Definitely sounds like a dead backlight, unfortunately.

And the difference from 2ms to 4ms is, in my opinion, not as pronounced as they would like you to believe ;)

I suppose not everybody's a fan of samsung!... but heck!, The best LCD's i've worked with were Samsung's! Best CRT's i've worked with were LG's - can't say the same bout their LCD's!
