New Left leaning ANC goes to "Black Elite" for funding?

I smiled when I read this article yesterday. With all the rhetoric from the likes of Vavi, Blade and others regarding beneficiaries of narrow BEE, guess who they go to when they need money?

IMO, nothing much will change in as far as economic policies are concerned. But a few interesting things came out of the aticle as well:

The meeting-turned-fundraiser signalled a potentially new era in party funding, with ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa saying “anonymous brown envelopes exchanging hands” would no longer be tolerated.

Something I would encourage. We need to know WHO is giving these parties money. And I commend these guys that gave their money for doing it in the open like that.

He admitted that most of those present, including himself, were beneficiaries of black economic empowerment and had the stomachs to show for it, saying: “In 1993 most of us in this room had six packs. Today we have patriotic fronts.”

He urged big business to support the “country’s constitutional democracy” by funding all political parties.

“Just the other day we had (DA leader) Helen Zille in our offices requesting funding. So there is nothing wrong with business supporting our country’s constitutional democracy and its electoral processes.”

Though I know that political parties approaching big business for funding is a global phenomenon, IMO it is not right. But then again where else are they going to get it?

The reason I say that, is becuase no that this info has come out. People will now be starting to question a few things. Like GijimaAST's success in the public sector. when they land a tender, some will say it is becuase they bought political influence, and forgetting that it a competent organisation.

I wonder how much they gave the DA?

Though the DA never claimed to be left wing, merely moderates i.e. some level of support for big business and a minor socialist agenda. The ANC is suddenly claiming to be swinging to the far left yet would like to benefit from capitalist business. Something comes to mind here about cake and how to eat it.

Left wing parties have always been funded by capitalists, directly or indirectly.
Just look at every left wing party in Europe, from the National Socialists in Germany to
British Labour.
There is nothing new to see here, move along.

British Labour is hardly leftist. Maybe slightly left of moderate, but hardly the "socialists" they would believe. Just their support for the Iraqi war is a good indication.
