Urgent help pls ? Need to Format HDD Vista on it :(

Hi Guys

This is killin me, I need to remove Vista fo my HDD and wipe it clean. Now in XP one would go to add remove programs, create a boot disc and bam.


Now I can't get it done on Vista :(

Pls pls pls help from start to finish.

From creating the Partition till the actual wipe (Format)

I'm going to throw this fk'ng thing from the balcony :mad:

Ok wait do you want to format the hard drive with vista on it?

Pop in your vista cd and click on the format option when asked what you want to do.

If restart with the disc in the drive it just starts windows normal. If I use F8 it gives me different boot options but that is it :(

Pls forgive the spelling this virus is fk'ng up my keyboard. Took me ages just to type this /cry
 
What exactly do you want to put on the disk? New Vista? XP? Linux?

All three include the formatting thing in their install process.

If you don't want to put an OS on it then you just right-click on it in explorer/disk management and say format.

F8...you need to hit F8 much earlier. Hit F8 late = windows menu. Hitting f8 early= motherboard menu. F8 only works on some motherboards...if its not working for you then you need to change the boot device in the BIOS by hand....it needs to be set to the CDrom drive.

What brand motherboard?
 
Make sure you do this properply or the vista boot files still remain. Also be careful if you have additional hard disks on you system. I had numerous problems when i reverted back to XP
 
Yeh - change the boot priority in the bios to boot from the CD/DVD then the HDD.

It should then say something like "Press ANY KEY to boot from CD..."...etc.
 
hehe I slapped it's bitch up :D

But stuck on Vista again, Tried booting with XP but it doesn't allow it for some reason.
But for now my PC is fresh again, now to install and find all the drivers again /cry
 
no need to for a full Ubuntu Live CD ISO, head off to distrowatch and download gparted (~50MB) iso and use that to format and partition disc (prepare for VISTA, XP or Linux).

PS: the reason XP does not boot up, is it not bec of SATA drive issue? i have the same problem.

I have been trying to search online for an explanation and apparently. XP runs on something 5 and Vista on something or another 6.

Anyway, if I use the downloaded gparted file and boot with that it will partition and then allow me to boot using a XP disc ?
 
Gparted is a partitioning tool with a small Linux kernel--it can format (all types of file systems), partition and resize hard drives.
Boot up with the GParted ISO live CD and load the desktop; GUI's guide you on how to get to the enxt logical step.

EDIT: GParted will unfortunately not set-up issues with SATA drives (only Vista has drivers for this; Linux also does not need these drivers); XP (old OS) needs drivers (that come on floppy drives I beleive) to recognize the HDD.
My advice: if you want Vista, put the Vista disc and format drive and install Vista
if you want Linux, just boot up with linux ISO and install
if you want XP: I am at a loss.
