It's a pity that in SA it's price will probably be determined by it's performance. And since the figures suggest that it's close to a 911 Turbo, it will probably cost over R1 million. And considering that in the US they're getting it for $50 000 :(

Then again this is SA, where vehicle manufacturers know they can shaft the public, because people will still buy it at whatever price they set.
 
you do know that car duties are 40% and vat on top of that, and then then the manufacturers and dealers have to make their profit

So let's work on the US retail price; 1.54*50000=$77000. The cost price to the US before their duties is about the same as the cost price to SA before our duties.

With something costing that much, I seriously doubt that a (minimum) markup of 25% each for the manufacturer and dealer is necessary (ever wonder why they so willingly give you a 5% discount when you purchase a vehicle?).

And I know for a fact that the cost price of a 350Z to Nissan S.A. is ~R300 000 (don't ask how, call it insider info if you may), but I don't see them going berserk with the markup on that. If you have ever been to the NSA plant in Rosslyn and seen the bureaucracy for yourself, you'll know exactly why they'll have no problem in shafting people.

Also look at other vehicles in the US costing ~$50 000 (M3, for example), they're not exactly retailing here for over a million are they? Instead BMW are took the decision that if they reduce the markup, they'll sell higher volume.

30 coming into SA ... price around R900k ... depends on exchange rate ...

10 allocations left ... going to put my order in

Ok you excused as you're in GP.
I was mainly referring to CT M3 Drivers they're such *********s!
Right after them would be the Golf V GTI drivers :mad:
 
I really want one of these cars (GT-R), :( The fact that Jeremy Clarkson broke his neck driving that beast of a car around a corner says it all, this thing means business.

A M3 would be good also, those cars are just loads of fun, although there are some M3 drivers who are real asses.

Porsche says they lying, Im a biased Porsche fan so I will back them... If they wrong it will be a slap in their face, but im sure they did their homework before accusing Nissan.

Nissan has refuted Porsche’s falsification claims concerning the GT-R’s stunning Nordschleife lap times.

When Nissan’s chief test driver Tochio Suzuki hustled a standard GT-R around the forbidding Nurburgring in only 7m 29s on 17 April this year, Porsche engineers were at a loss for words.

The Nissan was quicker than both the 911 GT2 (7m 34s) and the 911 Turbo (7m 38s), and Stuttgart’s chassis, powertrain and suspension engineers were waving recriminating fingers at each other in parliamentarian fashion after the GT-R record lap.

Porsche hot laps

It’s an open secret manufacturers purchase each others cars to use as a comparative engineering benchmark during research and development cycles. Just as Nissan had done in the GT-R development cycle (when a 911 Turbo was parked in the Nissan pits at the ‘Ring) Porsche imported a GT-R from America.

It then let an anonymous 911 chassis engineer - and Nurburgring expert according to Porsche - loose in the GT-R, as well as a 911 Turbo and GT2. The GT-R could only manage a 7m 54s time with the Porsche man onboard, whilst both the Turbo and GT2 were significantly quicker, posting 7m 38s and 7m 34s times respectively.

Porsche has been as diplomatic as possible concerning the entire affair, postulating the 7m 29s GT-R ‘wonder-car’ simply had to be running on slick or semi-slick tyres.

August Achleitner, the 911 product chief is in no doubt. “This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tyres such as a semi-slick race-style tyre and not standard road tyres. The Nissan is a good car. It’s a very consistent car. But this car is about 20 kilos heavier than the Turbo.”

Old news and Porsche have been proven wrong. The Nissan guys actually said in their press release, that they offer driving courses to all GT-R owners, and the Porsche boys are welcome to attend, since they're just not driving the car correctly.
 
R900k is still very good value for a car that performs like this. Me likes.

Sounds like a certain car club I know.

When knocked on performance, the lot of them tell me how only owners know how to drive the car correctly. Jeremy Clarkson, Stig, race drivers and motor journalists don't know how to drive the car correctly ...

The whole VW (oops, sorry, Porche) GT-R issue was about the fact the Porche said the Nissan wore slicks during the test. Nissan then supplied video material that proved that it was clad in normal tires.

As far as I know it the issue has not been resolved.
