Well, I just heard today that the guy finally got away with a R1000 fine.

Was today in the Alberton Magistrates court. Got white-washed... the family were not allowed to take the stand or call any witnesses.

I hope they file a civil claim!

He basically faced a charge of assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm. The fact that the victim was 82 years old makes no difference.

The family have doctor's letters showing how the assault contributed to the deceased early death. he had been healthy up to that point. His stay in hospital brought on pneumonia and that finished him off.

Of course it makes a difference.

what kind of animal punches an 82 year old man repeatedly in the face so that he breaks his jaw and cheekbones?

Of course it is terrible to beat an 82 year old man, but had he beaten a 41 year old man, he would have faced the same charge, regardless how terrible it is.

If it had been allowed to prove that the assault led to his death he would have been charged with culpable homicide / manslaughter. He would have got ten years at least.

+1.

If someone did that to an 82-yo family member of mine and he got away, I'd probably ask someone to let him have an "accident".... :p

This guy should be shamed, I hope karma gets him.

This guy should have his fingers chopped off. Like they do in some of the [black] settlements where they take proper action if someone is raped/murdered or something.

The guy was drunk by the way and hurriedly left the scene of the accident before the police showed up. He was never charged with drunk driving or leaving the scene of an accident. His car was barely driveable. The elderly motorist accused Dirker of pulling in front of him at a red light leaving him not enough time to stop.

hopefully karma comes in the form of a hungry lion that escaped from his nearest zoo

This is so sick - Andre Decker you are a POS and our justice system once again fails the people. Wonder what would have happened if it was a black man he assaulted?

Some news reports said "Dirker", some said "Decker". I'm not sure which is correct.

Hopefully someone recognizes him from his picture in the Sunday Times this morning and reroutes that stylish hairdo...
