RAM, CPU or faulty VGA card?

Hey

I just bought myself a Radeon 4670 HIS, and Im not seeing such great frame rates. In games like Crysis, I can barely run it on medium with no AA @ 1024x768 res.
I only have 1gb ddr400 ram and am running a 64bit 3200+ AMD single core. I honestly thought my 6600gt was where the biggest bottleneck was. Has the RAM got such a huge affect on frame rates in games? Or is it the CPU?

Anyways any input would come in hand :)
 
ye but the 4670 is still a huge leap from a 6600gt. Plus the benchmarks I looked at prior to the purchase sing a totally different song, something like 60 fps at 1024 whereas I get on average around 20

Where the benchmarks run on a single core with 1gig of ddr400?:confused:

Grabbing another stick of ram will help a lot...but you're going to hit a wall fairly soon after that where there is no single bottleneck. And then you'll have to upgrade the whole PC.

Would also be helpful to know what OS. XP I assume?
 
Crysis is a really demanding game I on a 3800+ Dual core amd and 1gig (667) ram and a 8800gts I had also a lot of lag even now with 4gig(800) of ram the game still lags but all other games runs pretty smoothly.

It must be the Cpu Since my GPU is up to the task and my ram is also up to it. SO I would say a new Cpu is in order if u want to run Crysis.
 
Yep, they say inorder for no cpu bottleneckin crysis., u'll need at least a 2.2ghz core2duo(e4500 or better)

U got a single core 3200+...no gfx will give u good frame rates on crysis...all those trees are memory hogs.

And yeah...2 gigs or more ram are recommended...
 
ok, firstly Crysis has insane physics, which runs off the cpu.
secondly, crysis loves ram, so much so that 1 gig will fill up super fast, and you might need 3gig's for that game to run nicely... also, you have ddr ram (aka slow) and that simply means that it takes longer for it to reach the cpu, then the gfx etc... which slows things down a bit...

Also, remember that when they review a gfx card, they usually have a nice, power dual/quad core cpu, lotsa ram, fast hdd's etc...

So I think that you might need to fork out some moola to get that pc crysis compatible... A single core cpu will choke on just the AI, let alot the physics and other niceties.

The AMD 3200+ was a real game killer in it's time, I got it too(I really need to upgrade some time) however, It seriously outdated now and so I think you might need to pull out some cash in order to play these new games
 
Agreed, 1GB of RAM isn't really enough to expect a smooth experience with Crysis. And your CPU is not helping much either, unfortunately.
 
The 4670 pretty much matches the 3850 and first gen 8800GTS 320MB cards. it should run Crysis on medium fine.

The single Core CPU is what's dragging you down. Upgrading the 6600GT removed the bottleneck, just to hit the next one shortly after.

1GB ram is also unlikely to be enough

For Crysis on medium you need a Dual Core CPU, 2GB RAM and a 8800 or 4670 graphics minimum.
