Dear Rodent.

Myself and I am sure many others want to know if you have already committed yourself to handing over your site.

Also what is your plan of action now since it is obvious that Sentech did not meet with conditions.

Also what I find intolerable is:

1] Sentech will restore service levels ON CONDITION site handed over. Why did she not say restore service levels unconditionally?

2] The fact that they say 1% of users ! Surely that is horribly understated .Surely this understatement has to be rectified?

Please keep us posted
Thanks

I'm assuming you are referring to the BusinessDay article.

The only thing we have agreed on is that we will continue our discussions this week. So far, it sounds like the only thing I'm going to say is: "Have you heard about googlespamming?"

During our discussions I said to her that I'll gladly transfer/delete the domains if Sentech can fix the problem, and come up with a proper technical explanation. I also said to her that I believe a "rebate" is VERY appropriate considering the way in which the problem has been handled since it's inception.

I think her 1% of users comes from the fact that this is the number of "speed" related queries that have been logged at the Orc-desk. I really HAVE to stress that it is imperative that you log a ticket with the helpdesk about poor performance.

It's as simple as sending "Speeds suck, tower xyz, signal xx%" to [email protected] and insisting on a ticket.

But Rodent,

How can we googlebomb when neither sentechsuck.co.za nor mywirelesssucks.co.za is found by google or ananzi for that matter?

per google:
Sorry, no information is available for the URL sentechsucks.co.za

If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: sentechsucks.co.za
Find web pages that contain the term "sentechsucks.co.za"

Google indexes once a month around 15-19th, and there is only one site so far pointing to the two domains - this one.

As soon as Googlebot indexes MyADSL the other two sites will be indexed as well.

Quick explanation of "googlebombing": Google rankings for a site are determined by the text that OTHER SITES use to link to that site (i.e. the blue underlined text on other web pages). This is rather clever as google does not so much rely on what a site claims to be (early search engines were easily fooled and one could increase ones rankings by simply placing lots of (hidden or otherwise) keywords on one's own page), but rather, google relies on what *other people* seem to "claim" a site is (I mean implicitly 'claim', when they choose keywords to link to that site with). So if e.g. lots of people link to tomshardware.com with keywords like "hardware reviews", then tomshardware.com gets a high google ranking for the keywords "hardware reviews" (gosh, I just made that example up and tomshardware.com turns out to really be the top result for those keywords).

So most people discussing MyWireless will link to Sentech's site with the link text "MyWireless". This will cause google to rank Sentech's site number 1 for the keyword "MyWireless", and customers looking for information about the product are mostly likely to type "MyWireless" into google, hence google's search results are appropriate. But sometimes google can be "tricked" into increasing the rank of a different site, if enough people cooperate and create links from their sites/blogs. So if a lot of disgruntled customers created website links to sentechsucks.co.za but specifically using "MyWireless" or "Sentech MyWireless" or "Sentech" as the link text, then google will increase the rankings of sentechsucks.co.za for those keywords, and consequently customers looking for information about e.g. "MyWireless" will find "sentechsucks.co.za" as it will be at or near the top result in google. This is of course the idea, as finding the "sucks" site will make those potential customers wary (rightfully so if a company isn't delivering what it advertises). (Note that adding many links from the same site doesn't work, google will only use the first from each page, so a lot of site owners have to cooperate)

Of course the idea is NOT to use link text such as "Sentech sucks" because that will mainly increase the ranking of the "sucks" site for people who are already looking for "sentech sucks" in google. Googlebombing is done best when one tries to earn a high ranking and get hits for a *different* site - e.g. the official sentech site vs. the "sucks" site.

Google only includes sites in their results that are currently linked to by other websites on the Internet, so if nobody has yet linked to sentechsucks.co.za, google won't find it at all. If people start linking to it, google will automatically pick it up once their crawlers find the links.

with all the talk of google bombing and the likes, I've had an ingenius idea!
WHO NEEDS alternate domains created, if we can fix the ratings here, we should all use our resources, create enough links to the site, and consistently use the words SENTECH, TELKOM, instead of Sintech, swinetech , telkum, telkrap etc.
hence, any search for either SENTECH, or TELKOM, list myadsl.co.za first, instead of the designated parties, and noone can force RPM to hand over his domain!

IT will IRRITATE THE $H1T of our loyal providers, if all searches for them end up here!
All you great web publishers on the forum, can it work?
If this is all feasibe, RPM, lets spread this idea to all the forum topics, maybe make it policy to only use the real names?

Maybe it will even get our providers to rethink their strategy, give good service, and get good compliments from the all powerful myadsl community.
GOOD SERVICE, yeah right!

the business days article of the war is already on page 2 of a google search for "sentech"!
Strangely enough, "mywireless" searches give references for proasms site, therodents, rational, and then myADSL.
"telkom adsl" returns myadsl as the 4th link

How can this site attain number 1 on all the sentech/telkom searches

Nice one dorris, this would be much simpler if we could do it that way

/me can see the hamsters on bioplus are going at full speed in dorris' head

I dont think Sentech knows what the term :" Good Service" Means, Rather Sentech is used to NO service, and Sentech is bad, like the devil...Sentech couldnt even be saved by entire bag full of Girly giggles...Sentech is so bad, that bad seems good, and Good Seems bad...Sentech, Sentech, Sentech...

Dear Debora,

After often seeing your journalistic independance in pursuing controversial issues ;
I request ,on behalf of many thousands of outraged users of the new Sentech Mywireless service that you direct your incisive attention to investigate the severe issues that users have with this Sentech. What you will find will no doubt be evidentiary material for what may well turn out to be one of your great 3rd Degree stories.

Examples of complaints:-
1]Misrepresentation of service: advertised as "High Speed Broadband" ,users experience consistently less speed than 56k dial-up
2]Lack of acknowledgement by Sentech, either per their website or to individual customers of the existence of any problem, especially considering that so many customers are complaining.
3]No granting or offer of rebate for consistent lack of service
4]Customers dealt with in a hostile manner

Whilst this has been carrying on consistently for the last 2 and a half months ,Sentech continues to proudly advertise its 'High Speed Broadband' knowingly being a misrepresentation of the facts on the ground.

Please refer to the following forum populated by hundreds of my wireless users which is a good starting point to obtain users side of the story.

Perhaps instead of mentions speeds like less than 56k you should use words like "almost a third" or almost 80% less"... sounds MUCH worse that way :)

Unfortunately, Debra Patta only reports on Israel/Palistine/Lebanon or America/Iraq...unless you can tie them together somehow :-)

Rodent. Why don't you auction sentechsucks and mywirelesssucks? I'm sure you would be able to setup your own ISP with the profit. [:)][:D]

Good point- sell the site so person resident in a country that has no extradition treaty with South Africa.

This should pretty much protect owner quite nicely!

yeah but whos gonna pay the extra money for all the extra work? We are, in the annual increases. They are gonna kill us anyways. Rather stop playing along and concentrate on getting them to improve the service. Giving them the runaround isnt going to make your speed improve.
