Program that rips songs of music dvd??

Hi

Long ago I read an article about a pc program that alows the user to
rip the songs from any music dvd and then create a playable mp3, wav or whatever.

Please does any one know the name and where I can purchase it?
Ideal woould be to downlaod it for free:)
