Scarcity of IDE DVD writers

I just popped out to Matrix to pick up an IDE DVD writer for someone, and was surprised to learn that they don't even keep them any more; they are becoming too expensive to keep. I crossed directly over to WinGate, and they only had one IDE device, but it was on hold for a customer, and its price was R365!

I would have thought such a device would be common and retail at around R200.

wow, so they're becoming collector items ..... I finally have a use for my 3 then :D
 
lol i also have a brand new one (never used)...the pc i bought it for got sold so now im stuck with the drive....i would use it on my new pc but it already has one! so let me know if there any takers :) R250 with receipt and warranty from matrix...i paid R290 3 weeks back...
 
damnnnnnnnn....why didnt you try selling them ??????? next time you want to throw anything away please contact me! lol
 
It's about time I think. Optical drives took a hell of a long time to move away from IDE cables, and I think it's a much better move. Having the thin cable really beats the old wide IDE cable when it comes to management and neatness.
