You might be able to use those pentax lenses so perhaps look at some of the Pentax models?

I have checked the lenses they also work with Cannon cameras have checked them on a mates camera, but I just don't know whats best at the moment with regards dSLR in that price range and even if I cant use those lenses my mate wants to buy them so not to perturbed if they don't fit the camera I do buy.

Did you like your mates canon? There are some decent Canon 400D/1000D bundles at Makro (amongst other places) atm. The good thing about getting the same camera as friends is you can borrow their lenses and pick their brains. :D

They seem a tad expensive since you can get the Canon 1000D at Makro for around R6500 ? If you take the price of the printer off ?

Out of the bundled specials I'd take the 400D over the 1000D.

Canon EOS 1000D - 10.1 MegaPixel Digital Camera - Black 18mm-55mm Lens Kit
Might be wrong, but jumps in prices are usually because of the Lens you get with. I'll check out Makro's offers a bit later on. :)

I got the D60, and it is really nice it does how ever not have a "motor" in the camera to make the lenses auto focus, thus all the lenses you buy has to have one in them, ehich makes them a bit more expensive :(

But the camera is great and you can get it + 2gig mem card and a training voucher for R6000 thus leaving R1000 for another lense :D

there might well be a couple of other better deals for R7k out there :)

lol. I have a friend who just got her Sony, and she's loving it to bits. And her photos are AWESOME! (But she's just got soooo much talent...)

Keep in mind... the camera is only a tool, the skill is in the photographer.

I have to get my new camera soon, and I'll pick the best deal I can get in a selected scope. :) And IF I someday hit that skill level where I'll really need the best of the best... then I'll get it. Till then, its an awesome toy to learn on. :)

This is a tough one. I'm also in the market for a shiny new cam.

I have the Canon 300D, which is getting on a bit (ok, it's only got USB 1.0, so an upgrade is inevitable!)

The 1000D looks like an good allrounder (the DIGIC II processor is the kicker).

But then again I'm now looking at a super-zoom camera, so I don't have to lug a heap of lenses around.

Maybe have a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28. Cheap as chips and 10/10 reviews!

Yip, I have a Fujifilm s5000 at the moment, I do still have a Pentax mZ30 (or someting) film SLR camera but it is such a mission getting the film developed thought I deserved a new toy.

I guess the question is which Pentax lenses do you have. If it's a useful set, then getting a Pentax body makes a lot of sense. For the money you can probably pick up a K10D (if you can still find stock) that is a semi-pro budy - better features than on any entry-level cam. And it's properly water/dust sealed too. Another advantage is that your old lenses become stabilised on the Pentax bodies, since they have the stabilisation (Shake Reduction, they call it) built into the body instead of the lens.

I have checked the lenses they also work with Cannon cameras

Either you lenses aren't Pentax or the camera you checked them on weren't Canon, but there is no way in hell K-mount lenses fit on a EOS body. Maybe the Canon body you tried was a pre-EOS (FD mount, I think)? The Pentax lenses has a narrower mount - the lens don't even seal around the sides, plus it has the protruding bit that prevents it from going all the way in.

I'm looking at my pentax SLR lenses and my Canon dSLR and there's no way that lens is going to fit on my canon without some sort of adaptor.

I know they wouldn't fit but I had to try it again. Looks like a mirror-killer if you try it on a full frame body!

Will go check the lenses again and exactly what my old camera is maybe I dreamt it I lent the lenses to my mate on our one trip to moz. and I am sure he said they would fit :o or maybe he was just trying to get the lenses out of me for cheap. Anyway will check them and camera again tonight when I get home.
