View Full Version : Hosting games on Battle.Net?
So I've now been playing online a bit more than normal lately and would really like to stop waiting for people to host custom games I like playing, unfortunately I can't seem to host games of my own, I attribute this to my telkom ADSL modem and the switch I'm using at home.
Now the question is, does anyone know how I can change my setup at home so that I am possibly able to host the occasional game? I currently have 2 pc's at home running through a CNet 8 port switch into a Telkom ADSL Router. Both pc's run firewalls but I've opened the necessary ports to situate playing, from what I've read on Blizzard's forums though, I need to set up forwarding on my router to be able to host :P

good luck! I can host games when I play Empire Earth over the Telkom ADSL router here from work. I suppose that by disabling every single firewall in order to get this to work is rather bad as my PC could become infected by a virus. I suggest that you ensure that you have all of the latest windows update for your OS installed from the Windows Update site...

Why do u wanna host on battle net? What game is it? I have had luck with hosting :( Pity it always seems to be CS though and you just give the other people your IP and the port u using. Best thing i would suggest is go to the games host site and see if they have a forum, u will prob find your answer there.

Why do you want to host a game?
Anyway, the chances are remote because Battle.net like SGS host games on their own server and all people join to a central server.
You'll have to install gamespy arcade to do that
Battle.Net is the group name of servers which are used to play Blizzard Entertainment's games, things like Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft. You connect to one of their servers(currently I'm connecting to one in Europe) and once their you either join games hosted by other players or host a game yourself. Unfortunately with my Telkom ADSL router I need to set it up so that it forwards data from the port to my pc.

Hiya,
1. Type in http://192.168.10.200 into your web browser. If you use the default password, then type in root, root etc in the dilogue that appears.
2. On the left, look for Basic Config---> PAT (N.B IF YOU DONT HAVE IT UPDATE YOUR ROUTER FIRMWARE)
3 Add a new entry using the following configuration :
protocol interface service name local port ip address remote port
TCP ATM1 <whatever name you like> 6112 <your local machine ip address> 6112
Walaa! And make sure you open port 6112 on your local pc firewall too!
Host away! Also, for za gamers use a server called : reason.za.net. Any other questions just shout.

For diablo 2 there is a south african server.. you can find details on how to connect at http://www.gosu.web.za
Im not sure how if they working at the mo, but generally there are always people on.
Goodluck
Reality is boring for those who dont know ANYTHING about it.
Thanks for all the help, its really appreciated. I've been loving hosting my own custom games :) Next question I have though is, how do I set up the forwarding to both pc's on my network? When editing the config in PAT only the first pc listed for forwarding can host games, I've just tried to change ATM1 to ATM2 now, will see if it works but just incase not, what should I do?
Also how do I add reason.za.net to my server list?

iv tried everything and done everything correct but it never works for me
Modem > firewall > forrwarded ports to my computer
Router > firewall > forrwared ports to my computers
switch > nothing
windows > firewall > off
zone alarm > anti virus and firewall > added the program and ports
WC3 > battlenet host game > no one
BUT FOR YOU
k..
get into Warcraft3 go to
options > game play > in the game port put in 6113 or some number in the range from "6112-6118 ive heard" but if you want to host on both computers make sure both computers in the options game play have different ports what ever port is on that computer make sure to have it forward the stuff going through that port to the correct computer iv been trying my network IP
to find it go to start > run > cmd > typein ipconfig > look for the IP mines 192.168.101 but it changes thats the wierd part for me 4 computers on a network but a switch mine is going through since the traveling person comes and connects to it LOL
but then after makeing different ports for the game, do how you did it last time, to forrward your port and make sure its getting forrwared to the right IP of the correect computer and the right port
:)
but for me the sadness drag on................................................ ...................................

www.war3.co.za\forums under technical support they explain everything there.btw Plz do not bother in trying to host a game if u don't have a 512k con speed or better.else every1 just lags:(
