I don't speak French but I love listening to the music of Jacques Brel , Francoise Hardy , Paith etc...

I think that music transcends language barriers - don't have to speak French in order to appreciate the music !

Hell no. I hardly listen to the lyrics in any case. If music can evoke an emotion it's done its job.

I doubt you do ;)

The new Enya album has a Silent Night version in some or other language and it's just as or even more beautiful than the Afrikaans/English versions.

I love Edith Piaff as well, :p

Absouletly makes no difference, although I can speak italian, etc, I also listen to a lot of cafe del mar, buddha bar and a wide variety of other 'uncommon' music. I don't see the need to have any of it translated, it's good as it is.

You should be able to find some translations on the internet - if you really want to know what they are saying. Here's one:

Édith Piaf - Non, je ne regrette rien

Code:
No, not even one single thing at all
No, I don't miss the past
Whether it's the good it's been done to me...
Or the bad, it's all the same to me!

No! not even one single thing at all...
No, I don't miss the past
It's been paid back, swept away, forgotten
I'm so sick of the past!

I've fed the fire with my memories
??
My sorrows, my pleasures
I have no need of them anymore!

The beloved ones' been swept
With all their tremolo
Forever swept
I restart from scratch

No, not even one single thing at all
No, I don't miss the past
Whether it is the good it is been done to me...
Or the bad, it's all the same to me!

No, not even one single thing at all...
No, I don't miss the past
Cause my life, cause my happiness...
Today, they get started by you!

I produce music that is mostly about passion than it is lyrics. In most dance tracks, the lyrics are secondary for commercial reasons. Perfect example: 4 Strings - Take Me Away vs 4 Strings - Take Me Away (Into The Night).

So ok, I went through a phase of seriously enjoying the Spanish Waiter's yodelling.... (My SU refers to Julio Eglizias (sp) in this manner..) and it mattered not that I had no idea what he was on about, I just found it very restful...:D

Manuel?

Rammstein rock!

If I understood their lyrics I probably wouldn't listen to them

for me personally, no. i like plenty of foreign artists even though i have no idea what they're singing about.

Their lyrics are pretty meaningless ;)

"you smell so good.... You smell so good..."
