I was looking at buying a Sony-Ericsson W890 for around R3300 from Virgin. It seemed like a good price compared to other places in the world. The guy in the shop hinted that it might go down with the next price change. Usual reasons - oldish model, petrol price better, etc.
Now in new list from Dec - Jan 2009 it says R4279.
What are they thinking?? Good thing I don't use them for data with their increase to 60c /Mb.

It's still much cheaper than R2/mb

So what can possibly justify an almost R1000 increase?

Exchange rate? I would suggest waiting for next months price list then.

Never mind, it will come down soon. And if consumer wants the product he'll definitely buy

Oh, and customers ARE price sensitive. If the price is too high, I will wait for something better or buy something else.

I could be wrong but this phone is available on MTN Anytime 100 for under a R100 a month. Over 24 months that's less than R2400 total with R100 airtime every month. If you qualify for a contract then it's well worth getting.
And everyone at all the cell networks lie, but the people at Virgin just do it more often.
