Advice needed for a n00b online gamer (XBL)

I have just signed up on XBL and am still in the one month XBL Gold window. I have Gears 1 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and have completed both of them in single player mode.

Now I am a bit intimidated with this whole multi-player thing. So where should I start, do I need to use my headset, I am a casual gamer, will I fit in? Where should I look for matches, locally on the XBox lounge or directly on XBL? Is there some sort of XBL netiquette I need to be aware of?

Guys any and all advice welcome, I am just looking to have a bit of fun and make the most out of my experience.
 
hey dude, congrats for hooking up.

Yes use voice, it's important to get to know the guys, but be polite. Other guys might be rude as hell, but while you're trying to make an impression just keep it neat and clean.

Head over to www.xbox-360.co.za and go start chatting in the GoW2 forum. In no time you'll find some like minded players that you can add to your friends list. From their just meet and greet ingame and keep adding. Once you get going you can also use the "recently played" list to hook up with guys you've been playing with.
