I would like to know what the other 17% are actually doing to prevent this. Not having email at all?

Hardly surprising. I think most companies wont care until it bites them.
 
How easy is it for one to just extract a list of all the companies clients into a spreadsheet and email that off to a webmail address. A couple mins and then you sitting with a fairly valuble bit of data for reselling.
 
where does these places get the idiots in their IT departments?...but okay suppose at allot of smaller businesses confidentiality is of little importance, but doing some work for companies developing military equipment, emails are regarded as one of our number one "suspicious mediums" for corporate espionage, but okay then, par to securing your IT you also need to run a strong physical security as well ensuring that either someone doesn't have a memory stick on site, or ensuring that you get alerted if "secure data" is being copied. And if u still use a memory stick on site which really ought not be necessary on a corporate network) then ensure that it doesn't leave the sight.
 
I never bother reading articles quoting percentages, I have very little faith in any process that garnishes percentages. It's not an exact science and in some cases (government) I wonder if, at times, they're pulled out of a hat to serve the authors purpose.
 
What is is about December?

Panelbeat your your glossy sales brochure into a something vaguely resembling a press release, send it out in a mass email and you get it republished word for word on the front page!

Oh well, I guess even journalists get to slack off in December....

Edit: I retract that. It probably wasn't a glossy sales brochures that was panelbeaten. It was one of those 'independent' PMR research reports that they invested their entire marketing budget in 5 years ago.

Exactly. 100% of companies are unable to prevent confidential information leaving their premises via employees' minds. :rolleyes:
