Johannesburg - Internet Solutions would launch an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), or high-speed internet access-enabling technology, in competition with other internet service providers (ISPs), Rob Firer, Internet Solutions' product manager, said yesterday.

The launch was originally set for the end of September but Firer said it was difficult to tell when the product would go to market, "suffice to say we have a project team on the development of ADSL offerings".

"We are serious about ADSL but it's launch is dependent on many things, such as our talks with Telkom."

Internet Solutions is a subsidiary of the country's biggest information technology group Dimension Data.

Firer said Internet Solutions had allocated a "significant amount of capital" to develop its ADSL offerings.

The roll-out of ADSL by Internet Solutions could provide competition in the provision of high-speed internet access.

As long as Telkom is involved, we'll still be screwed.

I must admire IS. They have weathered the storm in IT against considerable odds.

I just can't beleive anything where Telkom is involved to be above board or competitive.
We can only wait and see.
Good luck to them.

When they do not have to do that bit right there in PURPLE, we know we have something good going in SA.
