Hi Folks

I am glad to inform you that MyADSL is one of the top 5 on the Financial Mail Top 100 South African Websites. I think the main reason for MyADSL’s success is that it is a true online community where members govern the site. Thanks to all of you that voted and to everybody’s continual support of MyADSL.

Full details about the survey can be found at http://free.financialmail.co.za/report04/websites04/

The top 5 websites can be found here: http://free.financialmail.co.za/report04/websites04/2-top5.jpg

This is great news for MyADSL.

I actually heard the discussion topic on Cape Talk on Wednesday this week I think it was, but I couldn't find the link in the Financial Mail.

Maybe Hellkom might be next. [:D]

If Google.com is number two and valued at $37 billion then MyADSL is priceless.
We are in for one h*ll of a surge in users/visitors, Telkom will not know what hit us!
Well done RPM, the Moderators and the contributers, this is the best place to hang out on the WWW and now it is official.

Wow, fantastic news.

And the thorn in Telkom's side grows. Keep it up!

Well done MyADSL, but I really have to question the validity of this FM survey. There are sites that we know from other statistics that should have been there. All the FM has proved is that sites with a decent user base who advertised the survey and who's users were motivated to vote could get their site into the list. 1000 responses from a internet population of over 2 million? With all these factors any statistician will tell you this survey was highly inaccurate and I am surprised at the FM for such poor research.

Hi ASmith

While I agree that a larger sample would have been desirable (it always is), a sample of around 400 is generally adequate for an academic study where there is an ‘infinite’ population. The fact that it was possible to nominate multiple sites gave the relatively small sample more credibility. I agree that “sites with a decent user base who advertised the survey and who's users were motivated to vote” could influence a vote, but that definition in itself is most probably worthy of a top 100 place in South Africa. It is not my intention to validate the survey or defend MyADSL’s top 5 finish. I would simply like to point out that a proper survey of 1000 subjects can give extraordinary accurate results (any statisticians care to calculate the accuracy?). Whether or not MyADSL deserved the top 5 placing, I think it is great for the site and for our initiative. Thanks to all you guys that voted for MyADSL…I think next time we must aim to knock Kalahari.net off the top spot! [:D]

Maybe the survey was not 100% scientific ... but still it is very significant that within 1 year MyADSL got enough loyal users to vote it to 5th place. The other sites, much older and better known, could not get that support.

The publicity value of this 5th place for MyADSL is very good, and people will take us ever more seriously as results like these accumulate.

The last election was also not a 100% scientific survey, but everybody acknowledge it.

So let's take the credit for this one. We tried hard enough.

Previous comments notwithstanding, its great recognition and as a bonus serves to advertise the site to potential contributers. Well done to administration and moderators. Keep up the good work.
Personally, as someone who does software installation, support & training, i find this site invaluable as a knowledge base. Thanks to all who contribute.

Heh? Ja OK, I'm not gonna debate the extent to which that feature affects the stats or not - I just want an indication of what the MyADSL growth figure is for a similar period (it's called the 'gut-feel methodology')...

Hi MBS,

I get your point. :)
Perhaps RPM should give us a Pre Month End Report. It would be interesting.

mbs, thanks for resurrecting this thread, at least now I know that MyADSL made it to 5th place in the 2004 FM top 100 sites survey, yay :).

Anyone know when the 2005 top 100 will be open for MyADSL / MyBroadband votes?

(also when it starts, can we use a global forum announcement to inform everyone? - my crystal ball tells me ~3500 voters will vote for MyADSL/MyBroadband.co.za...:D)
