Hello All.

As we all know Sentech has a forum with announcements. Most don't have a look at it though.

I'm adding this sticky topic and ask that if anyone sees an updated post from Sentech they please post it here.

NOTE: I will delete all non-specfic posts on this thread.

Changes on the MyWireless Network: 15 September 2004

As part of our commitment to ensure continued improvements on the MyWireless service, we will be implementing further upgrades on our network.

These upgrades will commence from 16h00 Wednesday 15th September 2004 and are expected to be completed by 17h00 Wednesday 15th September 2004.

The implementation will occur automatically and minimal interruption is expected as a result of this. The purpose of the upgrade , which will effect all customers on the network, is part of ongoing commitment to improve the services we currently provide.

Any future upgrades on the products will be posted on this bulletin board prior to being implemented.

Watch out for these! Mintek was down from 06:54 to 08:40 this morning due to this maintenance. Actual impact was NOT 'very low'.

MyWireless Antennae Maintenance: 13 September - 13 October

During the period of 13 September to 13 October all the MyWireless Antennaes will have lightning protection installations and various other hardware upgrades completed. The schedule has been spread over the period with an average of two to four antennaes being upgraded each day. The maintenance will be performed between 04:00 and 08:00.

Customers may experience some degraded throughput, however it is estimated that the actual impact on customer services will be very low.

Upgrade of modem firmware: 28 September

Certain upgrades that had taken place on the MyWireless network has now been completed. The main purpose of the changes was to minimize interference from overlapping base station coverage.

In order for the end user to be able to derive full benefit from this upgrade it is essential that the modem software be upgraded to the version 5.0.1.62 as well.

The entire process takes a few minutes to complete if the procedure is adhered to correctly.

Please note that we will not be able to provide support for any software version other than 5.0.1.62, after the 15th October 2004 and therefore urge you to upgrade to this version as soon as possible.

For support on the software upgrade please refer to our documents under our download section found under MyWireless - Support – Downloads.

You can contact our call centre on: 0860 736 832 for any further queries.

We appreciate your positive response to this notice.

Yippee (NOT) - there goes the little bandwidth we have in JHB...

Network Failure: 21 January 2005

A core hardware failure at our upstream service provider has caused the failure of all internet related services (local and international access) and mail services for mail being delivered across the network of our service provider.

Mail services running on the Sentech platform is unaffected, however users accessing these mail services via the internet will not be able to access their mail due to the internet failure.

Technicians are working at resolving the problem at the highest urgency.

Update at 13:30: All issues have been resolved and full connectivity has been restored.

Update at 15:20: Another fault has occured on our upstream provider's network. International internet access is currently unavailable.

Update at 15:28: All issues have been resolved and full connectivity has been restored.

Update at 16:30: The failure has re-occured at our upstream provider and all (local and international) Internet related services are currently unavailable. The technicians are busy trying to resolve the problems but no estimate to resolution is currently available.

Seems they need a stronger fuse as it keeps blowing :p

Sentech has committed in previous communiqué with it’s customers that they would constantly implement changes to it’s existing MyWireless services to improve the overall quality thereof. To this end Sentech is in the process of changing it’s bandwidth management platform to allow better sharing of it’s International bandwidth to all it’s users. Key to the changes will be the ability for customers to be able to utilise all spare bandwidth during the slow or off-peak periods. Tests are currently being conducted internally to ensure all variables are taken into consideration and further communication will follow prior to implementation. Sentech has also begun implementation of it’s next rollout phase of MyWireless high sites to extend it’s existing 60 base station coverage within Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town. The focus on this phase will be to consolidate coverage within the central metropolis of Gauteng initially, followed by extending the reach of MyWireless to other large cities nationally.

MyWireless connectivity: 17 - 18 August

MyWireless customers will be unable to establish a new connection to the MyWireless Network. Our technicians are currently working on repairing the fault.'

So no connection for 2 days.
Ag shame, Sentech is sooo generous with their downtime.

Their top support guy (Hugo) has left Sentech for greener pastures in the Linux world....
So we can expect more of this :(

He left a month ago already.
Whilst attending the InternetiX event this past week, someone gave me the
name of the company he's joined .... but now I can't recall it :(

Sentech's servers are once again listed in spamhaus repository for spam ....

Ah so this is not a new problem? I have had mails refused because of this!! Why does this happen and how can one combat it? Also question from someone interested in MyWireless, how would / should I respond (in the interests of furthering my education???)
......................Sentech have had terrible problems with mail being returned as permanent delivery failures. Although they are trying to resolve this the problem still persists. How and when they resolve this will determine our interest......................................
