Why isnt Charl Langevelt playing for the Proteas?

Show me any death bowler ( bowler that can bowl the last over without losing more then 4-5 runs) in the country that can match up to his skills!
He won that T20 for the Cape Cobras!
Selectors open your damm eyes!
 
Yup, Nel was dropped from the Indian tour so a player of colour could get the position. Langeveldt was chosen and he took offense to being chosen under those circumstances.
I do think CSA should speak to him about coming back though
 
that is the issue with this bloody quota system, take Duminy, prince and Langevelt for example, these okes preform on top class standard and there are many others now they have to be seen as the guy who fills the spot just because he is black?, honestly, the same issue with them limiting good whites from getting in to the team, get rid of the bloody system and we will probably have a better multi-colored team in any ways,
Sa could really use a good "death" bowler.

IIRC there was a thread about them getting rid of the cricket quota system some time soon? 2010 perhaps? Anyone care to clarify?
 
But I think it was the media who made it a quota thing. At the time Andre Nel wasn't part of the test team, only the ODI team. He had been performing well in the ODI's and it was assumed he would be an automatic shoe-in for the India tour (the test portion of it)...but from what Mickey Arthur and the selectors said, they wanted a swing bowler for India and hence Nel wasn't picked.

Nel threw his toys, said it was a quota thing...and the rest, as we know, is history. Langeveldt just happened to be the wrong colour at the wrong time coz he was selected for the tour on merit due to previous performances. Ironically Monde Zondeki was the in-form domestic fast bowler at the time, irrespective of colour.

On-topic: Langeveldt is old now...don't think it would be smart bringing him back. must avoid what the Aussies did and try to build for the future. We seem to be doing pretty well with the squad we have right now :)
 
Actually iirc Langeveldt was pretty vocal about his selection being one of skin colour. Nel was most certainly the in form man to select for the job and all cricket fans knew this. He was excluded for the sake of the quota system, so whether or not the media made more out of it than necessary, the point still stands. In fact in comparison to most race issues it blew over fairly quickly, media-wise.

But I agree that Langeveldt is passed his sell-by date - we need to build a team for the future and we have the young talent to nurture. Langeveldt is a great swing bowler, however take away the new ball or reverse swing and he's pretty average imo. Selecting a player purely for death bowling is a stupid move...

I guess it all depends on the angle you look at it from. Personally (and irrelevantly) though I've never really liked Andre Nel, was so happy I'd see less of him on my telly:p.

Agreed. We need a lefty, Lonwabo Tsotsobe looks useful. Hopefully they nurture that talent properly now.

That was the proudest I have been of a cricket player in a long time, he gave CSA the finger because he had self-respect.

well yeah he is a bit to old, waste of talent I guess, at the moment we don't have that many great death bowlers though, maybe Steyn , he did a good job now and then but we need something like the Aussies had with Bracken, Mcgraw and Tait, Ntini sorry to say is just a opening bowler and very good at it, but later in the game he gets moered for quite a few,
I would say we need to train 1 more seamer for endgame, get a leg spinner in - they are always worth 1-2 wickets per game, more then offspinners and we got a pretty complete bowling squad,
 
surely the question is who would you remove from the current team?

Sorry who thinks duminy is there on colour or prince for that matter? nobody does.

Langevelt is a very silly boy if you ask me, they dropped nel if you ask me because he was not performing and personally i don't like nel, do not think he is world class. Langevelt felt he was there on colour because that an issue he has, you take a chance like that prove you deserve to be there.

Nel may have one or two good games but he does not strike me as a player who we rely on.

I think when they drop a white guy for a darker skinned guy everyone cries foul, they are in a no win situation when they a pick a good darker skinned guy everyone cries quota when in fact he could be better. Nel is just big headed and could not believe langevelt may be a better bet in india than him.

Funny we so many white's still in the team and the darker skinned players are there on merit.
