This f#cking day just keeps getting better ... my 500GB Seagate HDD crashed !!!

I was working on a spreadsheet, logged off and shut down.

Started back up after a late night snack .... now my PC cannot see the 500GB HDD.

Tried swopping cables and connections - PC does not want to reboot with HDD connected.

Damn I backup last about a month ago. HDD is less than a year old.

Please guys, what can I do ... all my recent kiddies pics are there ....
 
There are so many threads about the seagate harddrivers. All of them warned to update the firmware. I did the firmware update before the whole "can't see the hdd" thing happened. However I believe that if you update the firmware then everything will be normal again. I might be wrong though since I'm not sure what happens after the failure.

Look through all the threads regarding the Seagate drives here on this forum.

I feel for you. I lost 6 of my 4x 500gb Seagate HDD's so far.
Seems like they are failing faster than what i can repalce them. :(
 
Who's the next best? Western Digital?
 
I am going to buy another 500GB today as a replacement ... what make should I get ... from reading this thread it looks like Western Digital is the way to go ... am I right?
 
I did not do any firmware updates on that drive ... does windows update do that?
 
Get yourself Samsung or Western Digital. Both very good.
 
If it's the firmware problem then the data is still on the drive. There are ways to get it back and Seagate should also be able to sort it out by using the serial port on the drive.
 
I've just had a 500G crash on an Mvix.

Took the drive out, hooked it up to the pc and the pc won't even power on - so no way to try anything with the firmware.

Scary thing is I have lots of clients using the same drive in their pc's and Mvix.
