Hi guys,

If possible I'd like to start accepting credit card transactions on my website - it will make life for my clients and myself much easier.. I just don't want the fees to override the profits I'm making if you know what I mean.

Has anyone here got any experience in this field that can give me advice?

I'd appreciate it a lot, thanks.

Best regards,

Jaryd

We use - and highly recommend - Netcash.
Off the top of my head: ~R120.00 monthly fee, plus ~5% per transaction.
Great customer service, and there's always someone intelligent and helpful on the other side of the phone when you need help or have questions.

ETA: There's a once-off setup fee of around R500

Also Mygate, which are fairly good. Just bear in mind the onus is upon you to screen every credit card purchase, and the banks and payment processors are genereally not responsible should you be defrauded.

And you cannot use Paypal to receive funds in this country. There is much debate around this issue but it's down to either SARS, the reserve bank, or the banks colluding with either to prevent using Paypal.

That sounds like a good option for what I need, just need to build my client base and website traffic now to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the tips guys.

It's just not possible to screen every credit card purchase. The system is automated, and you only know that a credit card transaction has been processed when you receive an email from Netcash indicating that the transcation has been approved or declined.

I'm sure that Netcash has very good systems in place to screen out fraudulent transactions. :)

I've never used either of those services, so I cannot comment. Setcom seems to work a lot like Moneybookers, though (with your customer having to create an account with them before payment) and I know that clients do NOT like doing that -- which is why we dropped Moneybookers a while ago.

Granted, they have good systems that screen MOST fraudulent purchases - but Netcash/Mygate/etc do not cover the ones that get through, and they do get through. They are in no way responsible, like the banks.

Just something to be aware of, as it can be costly to the merchant to lose money from fraud and the banks & payment processors are not liable at all.
