In the January 2009 edition of Popular Mechanics, there is an article about exploiting the Look4me service to track your vehicle. You conceal an old cellphone with a pre paid sim that is permanently connected to the car’s battery, in the dashboard.

My question is, how would you connect the cellphone to the battery? I mean, won’t it cook the cellphone’s battery causing a fire hazard?

lol, finding a 12v source in a car would be easy.. then just hook it up to a .... CAR CHARGER

Is there electronics in the part that goes into the lighter socket. I don't have one that I can smash to have a look.

R20 at your local traffic light for charger, connect to a +12v and ground in the car, hide phone, put on silent, phone it once a month to keep active

All this is conjection but I suspect it would work - awesome find
